Which parts are different in the 2018+ i3s that allow for factory carplay?

Just curious what parts I'd need in order to retrofit OE BMW carplay, instead of going the Chinesium route. Seems like there might be enough crashed cars that these could potentially be sourced used at this point (especially as it seems like most of the radio type modules are not i3 specific).

Option #3 on this page explains the details of an NBT EVO head unit upgrade:

There is a video on Youtube specific to the i3, which is easier/cheaper because the current screen and other hardware does not need to be changed:

Of course, the price is more than Chineseum to do the job correctly with BMW parts.

Personally, I am waiting to see what BMW is going to offer us because of the 3G cellular networks sunset that's coming up soon. Although it is probably optimistic, I'm hoping they will offer a deep discount and offer an upgraded system that does 4G/LTE as an option for everyone.....

Having lived through the sunsetting of 2G service in my e46, their previous strategy was to just drop support and ignore owners of cars they're no longer producing

So, from that second list, am I correct in saying that a head unit from any of these cars have OE BMW wireless carplay and can be installed in the i3 (with their adapter harness or repinning)?

Seems like the adapter harness is only beneficial if you aren't comfortable repining. If there's diagrams of what's where on each style of module, that's a free replacement for that.

Which just leaves figuring out how to get the recoding services for a non exploitative amount (bimmertech wants $600 for what's undoubtedly a couple minutes of work).
