Investigation Charges

Hi,

I’ve just had a call from my dealer. I took the i8 in because there was heavy vibration under hard breaking (this happened shortly after I paid them for new pads all round).

They quoted me £500 to fit new pads and discs (annoyingly I have to pay for new pads again, despite having only just paid for them to be replaced 3 months ago). I checked and the price was competitive so I authorised it.

I’ve had an answerphone message saying the work is now done and that I owe £500 plus £135 investigation charge.

I’ve not had to pay “investigation” charges before. In fact I’ve only heard reference to them if they investigate stuff under warranty and don’t find anything.

Incidentally the car was also in with a major warranty item, and oil leak which cost £1400 to resolve.

Is this common practice now?
