i8 Software Update
I just picked up my MY14 i8 after receiving a software update - latest release came out recently by BMW and they actually had BMWNA code the car remotely from NJ. It is supposed to address the lag issue previously discussed and maybe other things I have no idea about
The reason it was remotely coded by BMWNA is the fact that the car froze when they did it in house after downloading the update to their local system. Once that happened, the drivetrain did not get out of park and they had to put it on rollers until it was remotely coded - so proceed at your own risk.....The price I pay for being an early adaptor I suppose, and sucker for BMW |

I have a close relationship with my dealer and the SA. I keep them updated on issues or concerns that I have or see on the board and they let me know when they get news from corporate. Dealers are hit or miss, some may do it when you are in for service, others will do it if you highlight an issue and they start researching it.

This doesn't happen OTA does it?
I've just noticed the "accident warning" alert when you are heading to hit the vehicle in front come on a lot more often. Seems to be far more sensitive now. |

So I mentioned to my local dealer I wanted them to do the new update so I can stay up to date & they told me "we don't do updates here unless there is a issue the update is supposed to fix & your saying you have that issue as the updates usually can just cause even more problems".
Is this rite?? I then said "well I thought it was like an iPhone new updates come out to make the car better & improve issues". & He said "yeah well like iPhones you do an update & the whole phone could be messed up even more" Now Im just like...Whaaaaaa??? |

I do know that you are having an issue with your car.......in battery only mode there is a serious acceleration lag. You press the pedal all the way down but the car doesn't move. The software update is supposed to address that......wink wink. |

You're right, though. It's pretty cool that you can just walk into your garage one morning, and your car has updated itself along with everybody else's. |

Hey thanks for the tip. So did you mean in eDrive mode only or also in comfort mode? I need to test this. I have felt some lag here & there but don't remember if it was in comfort or when i was playing around messing with eDrive (which i never use) |

eDrive mode going 100% electric may incur a small lag when u engage it. |

For those who have asked for an update and been declined, are dealers telling you that software isn't included in the maintenance plan listed on the sticker??

I did notice a few changes with the new software: - Eco Pro range prediction is more accurate (higher). The gap to Comfort range is bigger now (about 6 km on average rather than 2). I used to be able to get more range than indicated through driving carefully. No longer possible. The prediction is pretty spot-on. - First segment of the recharge range already available when starting on a full battery. Used to be, I had to drive about a km before that lit up. - There are pictures now in the interior light setting Nothing else that I would have noticed. Keeping an eye out to see if the re-acceleration lag in e-drive has disappeared. |

Do you happen to know the software number or how I can identify it to the dealer? Also is there a way to tell if I have the update like in a about software number screen or anything like that incase they say they updated it but don't?
And does the update fix the eMode lag completely or just makes it a little better or? Tried it tonight & that lag is TERRIBLE |

software update
I just got mine this week...one thing I noticed is that the emergency brake automatically disengages when you put it in drive...no longer have to manually undo parking brake which was a pain! I think it is nuts that BMW doesn't give us a list of changes and we have to find out on the forum. I have filed a formal complaint with them, but no response yet.

The brake disengages only when the seatbelt is fastened. If your belt is not fastened you have to disengage the parking brake manually. I found that out while moving it around my driveway.

My 2014 I8 was just serviced. I noticed on the invoice there was a software check and update. Had to leave the car overnight to insure everything worked. I now see the electric parking brake does release with the car in D or R when the gas pedal is slightly pressed to move the car.
