So who among us are pilots? I know we have several very accomplished military pilots among us, tell us your story!!! And lesser ones, like moi, do also! C’mon, this could be fun...

I flew during the war. Striker was the squadron leader. He brought us in real low. But he couldn't handle it. Buddy was the bombardier. But it was Striker who couldn't handle it, and he went to pieces. Andy was the navigator. He was all right. Buddy went to pieces. It was awful how he came unglued. Howie was a rock, the best tailgunner in the outfit. Buddy came unglued. Andy hung tough. Buddy bailed out. How he survived, it was a miracle. We lost Howie the next day. I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande. Those wounds run...pretty deep.

I went to school to get my A&P and graduated in 2016. I am now working as an avionics tech in general aviation. I am currently taking lessons to get my license and I am using the FBO/flight school at my airport (TPF). Flying is the best feeling in the world!

Have over 50 hrs on a light sport that I trained on back in 2011. Had to move for a job and never got the opportunity to take the exam. Prob would need 2 hrs to get myself back in, re read the material and could sit for the written and practical... love flying.

If I had $80k I would get my rotorcraft CFII, but I don't. Currently only have maybe 20 unlogged hours with my friends when they fly and 1 hour of logged rotor time. I may just swap branches to get a pilot slot in a couple of years.

Flew the CRJ 700/900 for 12 years at a regional airline and I’m now at the LUV airline flying the Boeing 737, couldn’t be happier!

I got my private pilots license before I got my driver's license. Pretty cool telling all my friends when I was 15! Went to college at Florida Tech in Melbourne to become an airline pilot. I got my IFR, multi-engine licenses and was studying to get my ATP. This is where the story ends in woe. I developed seizures in my junior year and couldn't fly anymore. I ended up getting an aviation management degree and went to work for Northwest Airlines in operations. I stayed there 2 years and left the industry. Ironically, I never developed seizures the rest of my life so I do believe everything happens for a reason. I still fly recreational a few times a year. Mostly Piper 152's and 172's. I've let my medical lapse to a 3rd class since I only do it for fun now.
If anyone is thinking about getting their private pilots license, DO IT! It's an incredible feeling to do your first solo and touch and go's.

Oh, wait, NOW I see what you meant... haha... no doubt the same thing Sam Snead meant when he said you had to take your attention away from the golf course to find anything more satisfying than a bone crunching drive right down the middle... lol. |

Back in high school I was working towards getting my license and was a few hours away from taking the test when I went off to college and simply got too busy with academic and social activities. That was 38 years ago and haven't flown since... Did enjoy the flying though! I'll never forget the day of my first solo. We are at a fairly rural airstrip doing touch and go's when he told me to stop the plane, he climbed out and you're ready! Go!

Even after all these years, I still remember my first solo. I still love to fly to this day and I’m one of the few who actually enjoy going to work and getting paid to fly.

A long, long, time ago I had my parents drop me off at the airport with no Drivers License at 16 to solo with 11.4 hours of instruction. Now, I'm at 22,500 hours in the left seat at B6 (The other pilots here will get the code) and loving every minute of it. Fantastic career.
