Nice! Oh god 94% charge and 349 km that is not a nice sight but then again i have seen different videos one was with 70% and 400 km+ or so. So its probably not very accurate or representative of the real world driving.

The car in the video has only driven 1 km in its life xD I think it needs some more mileage before it can calculate the remaining range.

I wish they could figure out how to integrate the display into the dash. I'm sick of companies just "gluing" it infront of the dash.

Oh they can. The designers just do this because they feel it looks more Teckky when you have floating display panels vs the traditional way.

It's just a flavor of the week thing that everyone's doing because they can.

Give it a few more years and things will progress to another fashion forward movement. .

Remember it takes 3 to 4 years to come out with a new interior so what your looking at is the designers best guess 4 years ago of what would be cool today.

In 4 more years from today their will be something else to takes its place that may or may not carry this trend.. .

They literally did that ages ago with the e46 (navi), e90 (idrive), e70 and every bmw since. Even the F30, F15 and current GXX cars with the separate instrument cluster. It was fine, looked nice. I love the traditional dash with instrument cluster LED or analog. This looks nicely integrated. (X7)

As did this (E70)

But people did this.

1) Oohh Elon Musk
2) Oohh one big iPad
3) This must be better.

I actually think BMW's screen integration is top notch. The problem with integrated screens is that they raise the entire dash and make the car feel claustrophobic/have poor visibility. And the problem with gluing a screen to the dash (ahem C-class, A4) is that it just looks cheap and tacked on. Plus the dash of the C-class is already too high as it is.

BMW did something clever by meeting halfway. Sure the screen is not integrated into the dash, but the dash slopes down making the screen at eye-level and giving great visibility.

On the contrary, I don't understand why we need the integrated dash or cockpit look.

The traditional dash was designed that way out of necessity, to hide the thick analog gauges and all the wires.

Now, we just need a thin computer touch screen.
Similar to why we need a grill for EV, why do we need an integrated dash for a computer screen? I never wanted my computer screen at home to be "integrated" into anything, why should we want it on our car?

Especially now we can move the HVAC components from the cabin to the front, we should explore new designs and not be nostalgic about the traditional look which no longer serves its purpose.

Cautiously optimistic about i4 M50 with the standard set of reservations about any V1.0 product with significant technological changes.

Deferring an opinion until the test drive.

It's a car not a desktop but rest assured there's a sincere desire to turn it into a mobile living room where you to can get bombarded with ads while you catch up on your favorite series or download the latest engine sound.

All in the name of progress. <sarcasm>

I agree. For example, I wish they made more use of HUD. That they still don't is bizzare. I dont wanna buy a car without HUD and to me it is one of those "wireless headphone" things, once tried- cant go back.

BUT. I do like analog gauges. They age much better. Couple of neat gauges + HUD is what I would like. I really really liked the E90 interior, it really blew me away, especially the one without Idrive hump. It was my favourite part of the car when I got it almost new. Sad they ditched that design.

Wtf I was expecting this to be class competitive with weight. I'm not trying to drive a 5000 car, that is not going to be nimble and lively feeling.

I'd imagine the i4 not being built on a dedicated EV chassis could have something to do with it?

Correct I was just stating they can.

I'm in the design department at an OEM and we try things all the time
To celebrate technology and moving the meter from the traditional interior but in some cases it's either a cost issue or to far out
That they feel the customers will freak.

This is just something new for bmw and their going through what is in the moment at the moment lol.

Things will progress but it takes years to move,

How long you think it takes to make an interior production?

It takes years! Not months.

3 to 4 years on average. So yes you need to remember this was probably drawn 4 years ago when it was all the rage.

And in another 4 years you will be treated to something new so sit back and just enjoy the ride

Agree, looks horrible and cheap.

IMO BMW have so much more work to do with their electric offerings. Others like Merc (EQS and EQE) look amazing, and ever Kia and Hyundia 2022 offerings offer great finishes, more millage on a charge and fast charging for a lot lot less.

This is the beginning of the end for Tesla as an auto manufacturer. My prediction is that in 10 years they will not make cars. Their core competency is in their AI, Auto Pilot, and their charging network. With the F150 vs. Cyber truck dynamics and now BMW taking it seriously... the real auto makers are taking electric seriously. Its time for tesla to pivot to their core competencies.

i4 range

This one has 20 inch wheels. They eat 80 km of range compared to 18/19 inch.

The dual screen setup look good functionality wise but why not put a bit more effort design wise?

Seems as cost cutting being sold as innovation.
