Yeah, pretty impressive things...but no. If I were to get an alternative method of powered transport it'd probably be a scooter/motorbike. But part of the laziness thing is winter cold/wet, and the resulting wardrobe change at each end of the commute.

Pretty well actually. I’ve seen them off-road uphill and downhill on trails too. Some have even taken them in the snow. It’s on my shopping list of “random shit to buy if $GME actually hits $1,000 per share”.

That's what killed my commuting by bike. I used to have a big office with plenty of space to change clothes and to store my bike. Then I got moved to much nicer office, but also quite a bit smaller, so no place for a clothes rack or my bike.

That would require putting some screws in the wall, which would require a request to have the university union carpenters come do that, which would require a work order request, which would require approval from my dean. If I request it today, it might be done before I die, but mostly likely it would be a posthumous installation.

I'd just put it up myself. It's always easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission.

Our facilities folks said that the central AC in our former office suite could not be repaired, and would not commit to a budget *year* when it could be replaced.

Two days later, Amazon Prime shipping delivered a monster portable two-hose AC unit to my office, self-funded of course. I had to disassemble the window, and install a piece of custom-cut plywood into the frame in place of one of the glass panes as inlet/outlet vents for the two AC hoses that needed to go outside.

A few months later, the head of facilities was in my office for a meeting, saw the whole thing, and didn't say a word! I don't know if it was because he felt guilty that they couldn't fix the central AC for years, or maybe he thought that his own workers did the job. Believe me, it looked much nicer than his workers could have ever done from the inside, and nobody could even see it from outside the building because I camouflaged it so well.....

Sometimes you just have to grab the bull by the horns and get it done and deal with the consequences if and when they appear.

A few years into my employ, the facilities crew needed to take down an old 15-foot-tall sheetrock/stud wall as part of a renovation project for my department. They started first thing in the morning, setting up scaffolding. By lunch time, they had taken one tiny square of sheetrock off of the wall. At the rate they were moving, they could have milked the project for a week or more.

While they were out at lunch, a co-worker and I took a loose scaffold bar they left on the floor and used it to remove all of the sheetrock all over the bare concrete floor. Then, we used the scaffold bar as a lever to pop all of the studs out and piled them on the floor.

When they came back from lunch, they were peeved! It was like I slaughtered their sacred cow so they couldn't milk it for days! Their supervisor came in to check on their work a minute or so later, telling him that he was impressed with their work and gave the crew an hour to haul all of the debris to the dumpster and sweep up.....

Imagine all the union hours you "stole" from them. That's why they were pissed.

LOL, no doubt dinonz takes the cake.

I was simply going to say my first world problem is that I have to wait 10 days until I can get a tint for my new M340.

I just found a source for the bumper shocks for the 77 Beetle. Currently, the ones on there are in varying degrees of compression, so the bumpers have never been even. Those of you with even mild OCD will understand how much of a joy this is.

Problem is, I don't recall if they are un/threaded holes onto the body, so can't order until I get home and check.
