interesting rumor on frozen black i8

Ive been on the wait list at my local bmw dealer since july and this past week i was able to put my order in. A 2015 frozen black bmw i8 with giga interior. You heard right frozen black. But the very next day i get a call and division manager apparently said even though im paying extra for the special order color they are unable to give me specifically frozen black. When i went back in to do a change order my dealer told me this interesting rumor. Apparently, Steven Spielberg bought not just a frozen black i8 but the exclusive rights to own. Now basically bmw will not sell a frozen black i8 to anyone. Again this is just unconfirmed rumors but still what bs is this. I ended up staying with the white and gray exterior with giga black interior.

Also since i bought someone elses allocation mine is still coming up in a month or two. Im willing to see if i can give this allocation to someone interested. Since the car is being sold at msrp at my east coast dealer i think $20,000 is a reasonable price for my place in line to order a 2015 i8. Or i could be insane, either way i still have mine.

Pretty sure it's untrue. Before moving house Steven had an X5 and his wife had a Prius. And he was having trouble getting an allocation of an i8 let alone a specially-painted i8, from my dealer. I know, because my dealer wanted to sell him my i8. But that didn't last long and heads rolled.

Over my cold dead body.

I was unable to get frozen black. I was informed I could have any other color but in all honesty I figure its not worth the 10k charge for paint. I may just get it wrapped so I can change it whenever I want. I ordered my i8 in stock white with gray accents and a black Giga interior.

Interesting didn't realize black giga was being built, that was my first choice too. Let me know how it looks in person when you get it please.

This is a very interesting post.

When your BMW i8 arrives, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Yay, if I wanted to I could order the interior color I wanted since the car was announced. I've got an email to my dealer dated 3/11/14 saying I want the Black Giga interior as soon as it showed up on foreign i8 spec sites. Then it was announced my choice was basically PI or nothing at the beginning. I was led to believe the choices would be Pure Impulse Grey and Tera for the first two models years. I might have waited if I had known you could get black interior this soon. Oh well. Glad you got what you wanted

Sorry about the ambiguity. My question is whether a frozen black was made/is available. GMAN knows this stuff. Can't say why.

Closest thing would probably be Sophisto Grey with a nice matte protection film. The upkeep/maintenance is a LOT easier than matte paint (no washing so much it turns glossy) and most places give a 10 year warranty on the stuff and a quality installer can place the edges so that you'd never know otherwise. Less than $10k and more durable.
