We are very lucky in Missouri where I am. Our weather moves across us, and many times goes around like a river around a rock. The unlucky guys are in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, where the weather is made right on top of them.

All is well in our area. High winds last night and a pretty good belt of rain. I haven't checked the back yard for fallen debris yet but the front was ok.

I keep hearing about a storm surge that could reach 30 miles inland, which is unreal. I really hope that wasn’t the case. We are approx. 20 miles inland from the FL coast and storm surge has never been a consideration this far inland.

I hope this is the typical over-inflation of the media in these cases. The bad thing about storm surge is that it comes in THEN goes out. Double damages. Good luck to you!

From reports so far, the surge wasn't as bad as expected. They are saying Cameron took an 11ft surge instead of the expected 20ft. Downtown Lake Charles didn't flood like they thought. The wind damage is terrible as expected.

It's moving through very quickly. Hopefully that will help minimize the impact. Stay safe!

It's remnants get here over the weekend. In the meantime it is pushing a bunch of heat, humidity, and unstable air this way.

The remnants of Laura will be paying us a visit Saturday afternoon. Just what we need locally, after the other side of our town took a hit yesterday from a possible tornado that left thousands of people in the dark until at least tomorrow.....

Damn, I take that back. Laura managed to push a line of instability directly over us. I just watched a bunch of shopping carts get flung through the air; when I finally managed to get out of the food store I found that one of them had mashed into the side of my E350 kombi. :-(

I wish that was it but the damned storm hasn't actually arrived yet. Tonight we suffer the string of storms she pushed into our path. Tomorrow she passes through here.
