Not just yet. She's only 25 so she's a newbie to her industry, but has already been promoted once. They love her over there. I always joke around with her saying that she'll be President of the hospital some day, but there's no doubt in my mind that can totally happen. I have a salary and bonuses on top of that. my income varies from year to year depending on my bonuses since they can really be anywhere from 1K to 111K each.

I have friends in Aerospace and Mechanical that started out that high or a little less back in the earlier part of the decade.

It all boils down to what most people in here are saying. Its more important to do a job that you love to do then to do a job for the pay. Pay is great but if you cant stand waking up every morning and going to work then the pay isn't worth it. You only live once. you will be more successful in something if you love to do it.

right on. Maybe its different in Texas. out here in Cali its a lot tougher to get high paying engineering jobs right out of college or any other field. So those guys are lucky! haha.

This was in Florida. I know 2 companies that start out that high for certain positions are Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

I never said average. I said it's possible. I can't think of anything else possible first year out with a bachelor's degree.

Actually, I have a friend who is a buyer for a large retail store and he started that high as well, but they recruited him out of college.

I was over that my first full year, but I had more than a B.S. and I got very fortunate to get the job I have.

I've been told $50-60k starting salary can be expected for my major (chemical engineering). I agree that you should choose a career that you love...I've always loved chemistry so this works out well for me. I believe the only engineering job my university said would start at $70K was petroleum engineering.

70k is definitely not enough for the long run. Hell, here in SoCal, 100k a year will just place you in the upper middle class area, considering a nice 1,200 sq ft house in a decent area will run at least half a million.

70k is definitely not enough to get a BMW if you apply the spend 20% of your salary on a car theory...which many people don't.

I think there are ways to get around to being an RN w/o going to a university. My mom was a nurse in Thailand, came to U.S. 15 years ago, started out as LVN, took test and became an RN.

+1 Be the best in what you love to do because in every field, those who excel at it get paid well...be it the best basketball players, professors at a high rank university, etc.

When I was a pre med student, there were many students there who were in it for the money, I can't help but chuckle because even if they make it out of undergrad and get into a med school, the journey has only just begin.

Here's a decent average & median salary breakdown for recent grads at a top engineering school as reported by recruiters:

http://career.engin.umich.edu/salary/20072008.html

Whatever you do make sure it's something you enjoy. You'll be spending a lot of time doing it ...

Check other OT threads. Just go to school for 7 years, marry a chick with a good career, and both of you get lucky with your jobs.
