No more carbon fiber for future e-cars

At the time of the BMW i3, the capacity of batteries was still quite low, and so we tried to get every kilogram out of the car to reduce the amount of energy we needed [to power it] ... but, with the improving energy capacity of batteries, you don’t need to look for the last 500 grams.

Higher production volumes are another reason to abandon carbon fiber.

....and cost savings.

Understandable on an i3. Not so much for i8.

Original i3 a future collectible classic?

This means the i8 will remain one of the very few full CF cars.

Is any vehicle “pure CF”?

I could be wrong but I think cars like the 720s have a full carbon fiber manocage

The manufacturing process that BMW developed makes it cheaper but it's still a complete passenger cell in CFRP which is then mated to an aluminium drive module.
Not sure how that compares to the 720 but very few cars have this.

I guess my question was what’s the difference b/w the terms “carbon fiber” and “CFRP”? Wikipedia says they mean the same thing: “(CFRP, CRP, CFRTP or often simply carbon fiber, carbon composite or even carbon)”

They are the same.

And yes 720S is a full carbon cell. So is P1. Other McLarens don't have a carbon roof.

i8 coupe and i3 have full carbon cell too. Just the same. Astonishing and impressive.

i8 Roadster is same as other McLarens.

Lambos have only partial carbon cell, except Aventador.

Ferrari only use carbon on LaFerrari and similar hyper models. All others have no carbon.
