Grille Color

I've tried a few configurators for other countries, as BMWNA doesn't seem ready to allow us access. With every optional group I could find with Shadowline for the e40MSport, I cannot seem to get the grille to be fully black. There is always a bright outline. Has anyone found a way to accomplish getting the grille completely black?

Unfortunately, I don't think you can. The "BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line with extended contents" adds more black to the radiator grille frame, but as you say, it does not completely black out the grille; there is still an inner line of grey/silver on each side of the kidney grille. Can't even swap it out for a black 4 series grille - they are the same size, but a different construction.

On the left is the i4 M50 and on the right M440i Gran Coupe with the same "BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line with extended contents" selected on both.

Thanks for confirming the unfortunate decision at BMW Design. For my eyes, the elimination of the bright ring helps reduce the beaver-tooth effect significantly. It's not a show-stopper, of course, and I'm sure a talented body shop painter or vinyl wrapper can resolve this or maybe an aftermarket part will arrive. I think there are new electronics in that grille assembly, so not sure how feasible that last alternative will be.

Agree. Almost worth saving the money on the "BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line with extended contents" if you have to wrap/paint it.

It can be wrapped. I plan to have it wrapped.

You could also upgrade to the M Performance carbon grille

I would love to see aftermarket kit with hood/bumper in the m3/4 style. I think it looks way better without any frame at all.
If i was to do that with the work/painting involved i would also consider a m8 style bumper if that becomes available.
At the moment i like the look of the grille i dont hate it like many people seem to do, but there is versions of it that look way better than others for sure.

The IND build on the M4 is insane.
I figure I'll just wrap the bits in gloss black that have colors that make them stand out too much.

I'm going for the carbon package but what I have found on rear spoilers is that the airflow across them eventually delaminates/lifts the clear coat an so to prevent it they need a wrap of paint protection film.

How about painting the grill the car color? Try to make it disappear. It's not really a grill anyway on the electric cars.

Would be interesting to see the frame painted in the car color. Not sure about the entire thing..

Delete grill surround

Just went for a drive in a 4 series grand coupe to get feel of what will be almost identical seating position boot space etc .
Compared to my current x 4 was surprised that I didn’t feel like I was sitting much lower me overall was pleasantly surprised .boot space was good as well.
Noted on the m4 that the grille was similar black to the I 4 m50 but had no silver surround .I order whether it serves a purpose if not could it be removed
