Saw some pictures of Houston on TV this morning - huge flooding it looks like. Looks awful, can't imagine the damage to houses / cars and while no loss of life is good, at this point they are saying only 5 deaths. Be good if that was it.

Be safe Texas!

SakhirM4 - how are things - are you still there or did you leave? What is Austin like?

I understand that when this picture was revealed, these people were evacuated right away. The issue was, where were the caretakers? I can't imagine being any of these women, just watching the water rise around you with no immediate help. Also, I imagine that the gulf water is a bit warmer than the Pacific or Atlantic, because otherwise the temperature of that water would create even more havoc for these women. Sad.

My cousin got 2 or 3 feet in his downstairs, luckily he not only was he able to evacuate to his upstairs, he has a power generator he was able to set up outside above the water, so he has power. Smart guy.

Or exact location if you prefer. So we can send ahhhh...gifts. Yes. Gifts.

Subscribing you to a dozen mailing lists would never cross the collective BP OT's mind.

But seriously - hope you are ok. I've been enjoying your posts in politics subforum.

Do you know where the rainbow lodge restaurant is, next to memorial park?
I lived in one of the townhomes in front of it. A buyou is behind the lodge.
Experienced one too many floods, nothing compared to this one, and sold it.

My folks use to live on Montrose years ago. Mom now lives on Kirby which is staying dry so far...

You know what I think of this situation ?

These older people are very angry my friend !
And you know why ?

*Was it not possible to evacuate me in advance* ?

Realizing that the caretakers knew that Harvey would come , and hit us pretty hard !
Don't we pay enough already to care of us in advance and before the whole shit came ?

And you know what ?
With my character I would do exactly the same thing and stay and sit in the water and I would show my middle finger as well !

Amen ...

Have got power and am doing fine. The winds have finally died down and the rain has slowed to a drizzle. Winds and rain are expected to pick back up and continue through most of the week. Lots of flooding around me, but so far we are just wet.

Exclamation

As I watch all of this epic and devastating RAIN and FLOODING in Houston....

I can't help but ask:
Why in the World didn't the Mayor and Governor issue mandatory evacuation for Houston????

We all have been hearing about what was going to happen last week, particularly in Houston!
This is Katrina and New Orleans all over again....

The storm dumped 11 trillion gallons of water on Texas, causing a chunk of Houston to go underwater!!!

I thought the governor advised people to leave and the Houston mayor told people to stay put. The logic against widespread mandatory evacuations was likely that it would be worse if millions of people were stuck on the road and trapped in gridlock at the same time. I would imagine the evacuation of a large city takes much longer than a day or two, so they probably have needed to start evacuating last week around this time to make it happen.
