BMW i3 Navigation's location is wrong
Hi all,
I have a 2015 BMW i3 (fully electric no REX). One day I needed the navigation map to go somewhere, and all of a sudden although I am based in The Netherlands, my navigation system was saying I was in the middle of the sea! Anyone else had or knows someone who had the issue? Since I have an iDrive 6 system, it is not possible to reboot the system (only possible with iDrive systems from 7 above). I am becoming crazy, and I can't find any threads with people that had the same issue. Before I go to the dealer I want to check everything, in case it happens again. Thank you! |

I have the same issue. How did you or the dealer solve this? I have been advised to reboot the system by pressing the START button 3 times, but as you found out I guess, that procedure doesn’t work. Is there another way?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I’ve tried that several times without luck. It just seems to delete personal data, etc.
The app shows the correct location, so that should presumably mean that the GPS itself is working correctly. I can’t imagine that there could be two independant GPS systems in the car. So I’m assuming that the cause must be a software bug/glitch and something just needs to be reset. |

This same thing happened on my iX and it sorted itself out on the day it was on the way to the dealer (!).
Apparently the GPS tells the truth but the head unit has lost a position, then tries to expand everything in navigation from that erroneous location. Driving for a while might snap it back into line. If not, there's almost certainly a routine in ISTA to restore the head unit to factory. If you end up here have the conversation about map level and getting this back to where it was (or better). |

End of story was that I took it to the dealer, they said they reset the communications module, then disconnected the 12V battery for a few hours. Seems to have worked anyway.
