The specs in the ad don’t really correspond to each other, eg 40kWh to 54kWh but range only goes from 340km to 400km? Also the sizes shown of the individual battery modules are very different from the OEM ones, so how could it be installed, much less be managed by the car’s systems?

Someone had a YouTube video of a Czech car enthusiast interviewing a local i3 guru there who mentioned they do a lot of installing used working battery packs from scrapped cars into working i3s. Something like that is probably a better bet if you are located in Europe.

Here as well:

https://insideevs.com/news/756933/bm...-pack-upgrade/

On Alibaba, the 154 Ah pack is priced at $5,800 without shipping. There’s also a $4,800 120 Ah version that can be a direct replacement for the original 120 Ah pack. MTG says the new modules come with a three-year warranty and are rated for 2,000 charge and discharge cycles. Whether or not that warranty can be honored in the United States is another topic.

That said, an original, BMW-sourced pack costs around $15,000 without labor. Even if the shipping costs for the Chinese pack are the same as the pack itself, the final check should still be lower than the original.

Interesting if this was combined with Gen6 drivetrain on this lightweight car as is i wonder how good efficiency you would get out of it.

You might want to consider the quality of some of these Chinese battery pack rebuilds.

Yes, it would be very interesting to hear from someone that has installed this. If the numbers are correct it would almost double the amp hours of my 94 Ah.... Real nice to be able to get a bit further between charging stops when going on road trips.
