Are an extra set of 19" wheels and tires only $1640?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I see on the i4 build your own the option to get at set of wheels and tires for $1640. Is this true? Seems like an error or deal of the year? Only seems to be on the e40, and not M50.

From BMWUSA:

BMW 19 Inch Style 859 Y-Spoke Cold Weather Wheel and Tire Set in Jet Black

$1,640
Driving with confidence in the colder months doesn't mean sacrificing performance. Conquer the elements this year with a set of BMW Approved Cold Weather Wheels & Tires. Starting at just 45F, cooler weather has an immediate impact on the rubber compounds of both Summer and All-Season tires. Why? Rubber begins to harden as the temperature drops, negatively impacting not only a tire’s road gripping ability but also the vehicles steering and responsiveness, even on BMW Models equipped with X-Drive. BMW Approved Cold Weather Wheel & Tire Sets are designed with cold-resistant rubber/silica compounds that retain flexibility, sophisticated tread designs that help grip the snow and ice and deeper self-cleaning tread patterns that help reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

This set is sold assembled and ready for easy installation on
the following model : I4

Wheel Set Specifications:
Rims: BMW Style 859 Tires: Goodyear Ultra Grip Performance
• Tire Dimensions •
Front 245/40R19 98V / Rear 255/40R19 100V XL

BMW Cold Weather Wheel & Tire Sets are mounted and high speed balanced & include Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors. BMW’s award winning light alloy wheels included in this set are extensively tested for over 200,000 miles under salt spray and on gravel tracks to ensure your Cold weather wheel and tire set looks it’s best for years to come.
Price Shown is 4 separate Assemblies.

I think if you need ot, its way cheaper than buying them separately. The tires itself will cost you $160-200 each and add the TPMS, thats another $20 each. The rims can get very expensive. Usually $250-300 each. So the combo deal is atleast $500-700 cheaper

I think the snows and wheels for that price only appear as an accessory when configuring for the e40, not the M50.

The BMW cold weather wheel/tire assemblies are sold individually - the 859M's are part #s 36-11-5-A45-E15 fronts, 36-11-5-A45-E16 rears (you'd need to order 2 front, 2 rears).

Looks like four to me too. What use is one wheel and tire? Wish it was offered on the M50.

there's no way that price is for a set of 4 wheels and 4 tires. I know what the BYO site says, but until someone takes delivery of them I won't believe it.

Its not unheard of to get 50% off retail price when ordering directly from manufacturer. A tow hitch on my X3 factory installed was $300 but was quoted $2100 to do it after it was delivered. The cost of a wheel with winter tire is about $800. So in essence you are getting 4 wheels/tires for the price on 2 if you order with ur package. I think thats a good way to entice people to buy the package

Do any car manufacturers really need to "entice" anyone these days?

I have the GM of my dealership looking into the winter wheel package for my M50 order, as well as Individual Tartufo Merino Leather ... I'll let you know what answer I get on both

They dont have to, but if it means more money to them then why not. Thats the reason you have all these accessories listed after you customize the car. Same reason you might want to buy you all weather mats and other accessories from the manufacturer than at the dealership. There is always a markup !!!

I've been researching 18" wheels for the 40e w/MSport pkg that here in the US requires 19" Wheels in the configurator. Turns out this is possible to order in Europe and I found this when searching for 18" wheels for the i4:

That’s extremely expensive. The 18 set can be purchased for around €1800.

BMW is offering this deal on the rwd i4 so that there is less of a barrier to entry for buyers in northern states that don't tend to want rwd cars, and can't afford/don't want to spring for the awd i4 M50. Although I'd assume that a awd base model is right around the corner. Regardless, they are prob still breaking even or making a slight profit on the wheels/tires at that price.

I see no such post with any information about the availability of the winter tire/wheel package when offered as an option on a Priority 1 Customer Build G26 i4 M50

Still awaiting info from my dealership on this, as well as the ability to order Merino leather in the USA, despite the press release from BMW that it is available for P1 orders from March 2022 forward.

yes ... got the double bird on both!

As we suspected the winter wheels are only offered to the current i4 40 (non-AWD offering) to "ease" sales of the RWD model in "cold climate" states. The will not honor the item code on a M50 model G26
BMW will likely drop this "factory-accessory" when the AWD i4 40 comes out in MY23.

As for the Merino leather, also not being offered in the USA. I have my doubts about the truth to this, so I did consult another reputable dealer that does high-volume ///M cars and Individual and Individual Manufaktur order vehicles for the final word on this.

Unfortunately if I can't get the Merino, I may consider the iX
