Which is hilarious because BMW M refuses to touch i cars. In addition to being antithetical to BMW i there's an ocean of bad blood between the departments because of poaching of engineers/executives and funding shifting from M to i. I think the Formula E safety car is the closest you'll get to a "track" i8.

I prefer it that way. I don't think much of M division's "achievements" in recent years, whereas i division has made groundbreaking advances.
There is no reason i division can't make a "hot" i car - if they wanted to. The only thing holding them back would be a BMW corporate vision that enforces a policy of performance/track type cars into M, and eco/high tech cars into i. Anyway, I really like the i8 as it is. The only thing I would have changed would be to have wider wheels and tyres, to increase grip. It is not lacking, but more would be better And the i3 is almost perfect. Just needs 20% more range for the BEV, so you could have 100 miles without making an effort to be economical. |

Looks AWESOME though. Would be cool to see i8 body race cars.
