Sigh. It's a transition vehicle that BMW let us drive. Its point is not to have a huge amount of horsepower or lots of weight. It's a demonstration in compromises.

Stick with your 10 year old Ferraris. Trust me, you'll be happier.

Which is what exactly? An i8 and a 10 year old Ferrari have just about zero in common, barring the number of wheels and doors. Are you expecting BMW to have still offered this at $140k when the F430 was ~$200k when it was new? Maybe they should have dropped all the tech, too, and just put a 14 mpg V8 in it.

No...the point is if I have 140k to spend I will be looking at new and used cars like lot of people would...so personally I could not justify spending 140 on the i8...id rather take the used Ferrari. That's just how I would spend my $

Now you...i presume you also live in a free country so spend your $ however you like.

As far as the engine...id love an i8 with a V8 in it...clearly would be McLaren 570s pricing I'm sure but then BMW would have a car to compete in that market

Eh, I've driven 430 plenty of times. I think in the real world the traction and torque of the i8 would make the performance pretty similar until speeds got up there.

Ferrari is obviously much more raw and fun though. Hard to beat the prancing horse although if the i8 had 100 more hp and wider tires it'd be unreal.

Also, with what lease deals are on the i8, it's basically a $100k car to me. I know MSRP on mine was $150+ but the lease price just doesn't reflect that. Taking that into account it's a bargain.

It seems a lot of people mistake an "i8", for a (non existing) "M8".

It's not made to have a huge V8 with, in today's context more and more unacceptable, MPG nor CO2 emissions. It's just the opposite, it's meant to be an illustration of what is technically possible within today's context acceptable MPG and CO2.

Beefier and wider tires please

Hot car but I would make some design choices differently to include a bit more aggressive stance with wider tires.

When I wrote "let us drive" I meant what I wrote. Apparently nuance is not among your many strong suits.

BMW could have kept the car as an experimental model, a "proof of concept." But BMW decided to make it a halo car. As a result, BMW let us drive it.

Of course, that's only those of us who buy or lease it rather than troll and slag it in BMW forums.

Well said! Too many petrolheads simply dont get the i8, everything about it has been done for a purpose, every design decision is deliberate, from the size of the engine to the aero body design, to the size of the battery pack, the lightweight interior trimmings, the wheel widths, the use of carbon fibre, the skimpy rear seat pads, the use of tech, the use of bmw standard parts where possible. This is an absolute bargain for a low volume absolutely unique car. Why do so many just focus on a V8 and fat tyres, bith of which are cheap, old tech. If thats all u want buy a mustang!

Oh, and i cant wait to see the spyder with the roof off!

Ouch...butt hurt there

And you are truly hilarious...you get so offended that others may have a different opinion?

And what do you know what I can afford? I can tell you what I can afford was a result of busting my ass in school years ago and in the private sector....not as a result of a trust fund or a wealthy family Mr MalibuBimmer.

Ha.......ya, you're allowed to express your opinion in Canada as long as your opinion is what the government is pushing. Say there's two genders in Canada and that seems to draw plenty of flack (I can't believe gender is even an argument, we are all screwed).

...until he needs to go in for a timing belt change, spark plug replacement, oil change, you name it. I have yet to see a Ferrari that's still under warranty 10 years in.

Comparing two completely different car philosophies - 10 yrs apart, no less - just because they have the same price tag, simply makes no sense. Maybe with $140k in my pocket, I'd rather look at a fully restored 1954 Jaguar XK140 C-Head. There you go: two-seater sports car, top of the heap in its time. Okay, over 60 years old. So what? It's the same price, so it must be comparable in all other aspects, right?
