I never used anything but the display key. I have no idea where the rumors come from about daily changing, the battery easily holds up for two weeks and more. Wireless charging makes it a none issue. In a silicone "jacket" it's very comfortable to carry and no need to open the app to precondition the car, check charging state, etc. Finally a key that tells you if you locked the car or not.

Display key is a white elephant in my opinion.

I agree. Too big, worried the screen will get scratched in your pocket, no spare blade, battery anxiety, app does all the features much better!

Your dealer will need to install the key either way (unblock and link to your car).

OEM Display Key off E-bay will not work.....Each key is pre-programmed by BMW when ordered or delivered with car to work with that specific car only. They key cannot re-programmed to be used with any other car.

I just got a 2019 BMW i8 and the dealer said the car did not come with the display key. I checked the vin decoder and do not see S3DS (Display Key) option either. Has anyone else had luck with their 2019 i8 in getting a new key and coding it to their car? Please let me know, I’d love to have one of these things!
