I'm blown away that the iX doesn't have a frunk. Like what the hell is IN there!

Aside from having adequate number of charging stations, I also would require fast charging. The capability of the IX is already out of date compared not only to expensive Porsches and Audis but even mainline cars like the Ioniq 5.

It seems like it's a lot of battery management ECUs, other automakers have that stuff integrated into the battery pack. If you would remove all of it there certainly would be enough room for a small frunk. Doesn't look too dense either... And it looks like there's a solid 15-20cm of empty space between the front and the radiator. |

We sure it's not the long lost blinker fluid?

The cup holder isn't from the 90's, its from a 3 series and yes, that is a gas door from a BMW....these young "car" reporters.

To cut costs, BMW recently announced that they are no longer including blinkers on their cars since no one uses them. So I'm pretty sure it's the washer fluid.

The frunk is a moderately big deal, but they're obviously using it to house components they'd have to put somewhere, so, eh, not a big deal either. The power electronics heat has to be dealt with somewhere, if they used the space to make sure they would have similar heat tolerance to the VWAG products, well worth it IMO I have a 2021 Model X and I use the frunk all the time, but it's a nice-to-have. I want faster charging (no taper) and better consumption in suboptimal conditions. Tesla is offering both of those upgrades on the latest Model X pack and power systems, but it's currently unobtanium, and comes with a ton of ergonomic screwups, at a huge price premium...so. We wait. For somebody else to make a somewhat sensible 7-place EV wagon. Even Tesla has stopped making them. For now, Model Y is the only game in that town, and that 3rd-row is TIGHT. If you want a 5-seater, the world is about to get a lot more interesting. Notably, until the Lightning and Rivian and various other vaporware emerges from the mist to market, at 110+kwh the iX 50will have the largest capacity battery ever put in a production car. My X Long Range Plus is ~104kwh total, ~100 "usable".

I've been fortunate to tour the BMW Munich plant 3 times, the BMW Dingolfing plant once, the BMW Greer, SC plant twice, as well as the Mercedes Sindelfingen and Porsche Stuttgart plants twice each. Love those Kukla robots!

No, the reason for frunk delete is because of components and BMW (and other German Brands) will not allow for weight up front. I had two i3's and now have a iX3, very seldom used the frunk on the i3, never needed it on the iX3.
And as for charging, if you only compare Max input kW charging, it's like comparing 0-60mph times, as to which car is best. IX have plenty fast enough charging speed, BMW BEV have a nice charging curve, and unlike some (Audi) they doesn't recommend charging to only 80%. EV have alot of info between the lines, iX is a very non hyped car, there Are alot of intresting stuff, and for what it is, i think it is priced very aggressive.

I like the iX a lot - love everything about it. The white looks so hot but the arctic blue like color is the color of my choice. This maybe our first EV.
My daughter started a new school that is 50 mile round trip daily for my wife and we are seriously thinking about swapping out the X7. Can't wait for the test drives.

But my disappointment is the iX's charger: 7.4kW (about 32 amps). The VW ID4 has an 11kW charger and could charge at 48 amps on my new ChargePoint EVSE which I installed a 60 amp supply to. I don't get why the level 2 hone charging is so slow.

No matter which EV I test drive, including esp. Teslas, I end up missing BMW fit and finish, body panel gaps, switchgear, material quality, iDrive and the sense of luxury in BMW interiors. I am hoping the iX feels like a new-age BMW. But still a BMW.

Not a word about optional charging. I think it's maxed at 7.4kW because BMW thinks most people will be able to run "dryer" circuits which are typically 40 amp circuits.

German technical details also say 11kW charging, maybe US version is different idk. BMW USA website also says 11kW? No idea where you came up with 7.4kW... Also says it in the press release on page 20, seems like you didn't read it. It also says 22kW will be coming as an option at a later date. Quote:
