I currently have 4.5 yr old F80 M4. I did not get a service contract but did get an after-market extended warranty for 7 years 100k miles. I usually keep cars 6-7 years (prev had 2 M3s, E46 and E90). Both prev cars had expensive repairs in the 6th or 7th years and warranty saved me a lot. This M4 seems more reliable and I am driving less as well so I may not have needed the warranty.
I have pre-ordered the i4 M50 so hopefully will get next spring. Thinking that this is the 1st generation of electric vehicles for BMW so don't plan to keep past 4 year warranty. Has BMW given any clue what service will be required? The BMW website has a brochure that includes a set service package of 4 years, basic is $1240 and Plus is $4805. Does BMW anticipate massive brake wear that would warrant expensive brake repairs in less than 4 years? Is anybody contemplating an extended warranty?

Less moving parts than an ICE car. Battery in California is 10 years or 150k miles. Brakes? You might need pads but probably not rotors. My daughter's previous Chevy Bolt only needed tires after 3 years and 40K miles. I think a maintenance plan would be a waste.

The battery and motors will most likely come with a 8 year warranty, so I wouldn’t worry about bother with an extended warranty. |

I would be much less concerned about brake wear than conventional ICE vehicles since BEVs use regenerative braking much of the time. It's rare that BEV owners have any issues with brake wear.

Had to buy tire though. You have to figure that regen is going to always be used. With 300hp or more in regen these cars don't need a lot of conventional braking unless it's emergency stopping.
