Please let that carbon fiber gear shift trim fit my G20 M340i. I actually might be looking an a I4 as well. It would fit my current old ass. Major performance. I might be disappointed in the handling. My E90 M3 and 2004 330i ZHP handle like nothing currently. Have not driven the G80 though. Passed on all the F M3's.

An Alfa Giulia Quadrofoglio may be in your future...

It drives like an E90 but feels lighter, more nimble, and handles like a go kart.

Or we could learn to appreciate that each car has its own appeal and each person has their preferences. I say this as someone who has owned an M2 and then changed to an M2C over a period of 4 years because I love the driving dynamics and it's a perfect daily + track car.

Meanwhile, I have test driven every electric car I can get my hands on because I was interested in having one as a daily commuter and dog transporter. I was pleasantly surprised by the Model 3 and I am now considering getting one. After much research, I simply cannot justify the extra money spent on the i4 m50 so I will most likely get the model 3 performance.

The reality, the model 3 is a good car. It's not just for tech fanatics. Watch for example the throttle house review whereby the guy is a though-and-through petrol head who always evangelises manual gearboxes and openly states the M2 is one of his favourite cars. But, when comparing to the model 3 performance he said it is very close, which he never thought he'd say.

It would be more beneficial for people to appreciate the benefits of Tesla's and expect other manufactures, like BMW, to work those benefits into their own cars - performance, range, technology etc. Design and simplicity will always be subjective, but saying 'Tesla sucks' when they often have the best range, performance, charging infrastructure etc is over simplifying the car market.

I also looked at Model 3 and Model Y, but there were quite a few deal breakers for me, especially when everyone says it has "better tech":
  • quality is still not up to par. You may have to ask tell Tesla to fix panel gap or alignment issues after the car arrives.
  • no cross traffic alert
  • no blind spot warning indicators in mirrors
  • no 360 degree surround view
  • no CarPlay (means no crowd sourced data like those in Waze or Google Map or Apple Map)
  • no Apple Music support
  • no waypoints in navigation!
  • no passenger seat memory
  • have to pay $10,000 for auto park (I don't think FSD would become reality within the 3 or 4 year lease time).
  • no radar
  • very harsh ride for Model Y

However far or fast one can go in a Tesla, a large sample of owners report differently. It's not about what it has...it's about how well it works. What could possibly be worth putting up with this?

Tesla doesn’t suck. It’s just not in the same class as BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche. It feels futuristic in many ways, but it feels like the Toyota or Honda of the future. Not BMW.

Indeed, that is for sure a fair statement. They are certainly getting better with quality control, but still some way to go. That said, having driven Volkswagen's latest cars including the ID3 I can say Tesla are actually ahead of VW in many areas now but that's because VW are paying off huge financial fines. The other German brands are still in a class of their own though. Time will tell if that continues to hold true but I'm willing to bet it will.

They are? Further to go than can be imagined. Who does this? Who would even allow this to ship from the plant?

https://www.thedrive.com/tech/36274/...rade-fake-wood

Wouldn't touch one of this brand no matter how fast or far it can go.

I like CF gear selector. Standard gear lever on G20/2/6 feels like two-dollar toy, especially two piece plastic back.

I should made my statement more clear. I meant steering feel. The vagueness of electronic steering straight up sucks. I won't get into to sound, because that is an individual opinion.

This should fit as it looks identical. They did do an alcantara one which for some reason was only mentioned & possibly sold in Canada. I only hope they do an open pore as well as a gloss version.

Even the alcantara one sounds very nice. Thanks for that. Have you ever found a part number for it? I will spend all day on realoem.com today 😂. I agree about the open pore. Would be great 👍

The glossy carbon trim in the i4 I saw looked quite cheap/plasticky. I won't be getting that.

Yeah nothing tops E-chassis BMWs. I'd say Porsche's EPS is pretty damn good both in weighting and road feel. It's tight even at lower speeds. Not E90 tight, but you get used to it within a day.

Alfa's lightning quick steering was only possible because it's EPS. It does have some road chatter, more than BMWs, but not like Porsche. No on-center deadness or vague feeling in my opinion.

Model 3 doesn't have more tech. And straight line performance is not the only thing that dictates price. My car is cheaper than Rolls Royce Phantom, but way faster. i4 will definitely be faster around the track, it will definitely be better to drive, it has way better interior, way better fit & finish and material quality, way better reliability, better options and customization. Model 3 is like a fast Honda Accord in comparison.

i4 deserves to be double the price of Model 3. But it's only $10K more expensive. It's a bargain.
Heck, I wouldn't buy Model 3 even if it was 20K.
That's a great story but just because you believe all that BS doesn't make any of it actually true

Only thing stopping me is paint issues. Everyone I know had paint issues.

Well it's not BS. If you don't have the ability to perceive the quality difference between BMW and Tesla, good for you. You can enjoy sub par quality products in your life, financially better for you. Kohl's is better than Armani? Great! You save a lot that way.

There is absolutely no debate on this. Tesla Model 3 is noisier than a BMW 3 series cruising on the highway. And it doesn't have an engine.
This by itself tells a lot.

You are wasting your time preaching Tesla in a BMW dedicated forum.
If I want a Tesla, I would be writing in a Tesla forum right now.

And I can't see how BMW is "way behind" Tesla when you can't even get basic safety features like Cross Traffic Alert and Blind spot indicator; or convenient features like 360 degree camera, HUD or massage seats in a Tesla.
