Hope BMW is watching the US EV Tax Credit Legislation

There are lots of proposals being floated about the US 2022 EV tax credit/rebate legislation. The US laws for 2021 gives the $7500 federal tax credit for any BEV (BMW is way above the min battery capacity needed).

The current proposed for 2022 (when US buyers will be taking delivery) puts a MSRP cap of $55K for sedans and $69K for SUV's. The base price (what rebates are usually linked to) for the idrive40 is $401 over the cutoff, thus no rebate. That's a BIG hit. If these rules get passed, I hope BMW can lower the base MSRP price $500 (make something optional if need be), OR get the i4 classified as a SUV (hatchback) as the Tesla Y appears to be.

You know BMW will make mats optional at $450 to lower the base.

Given the X1 and X2 aren't classified as a SUV, the i4 is unlikely to be classified as a SUV.

The Senate finance committee proposed $80K MSRP. If the House passes their version, details could change from legislative reconsolidation between House and Senate.

Decreasing the MSRP, through any means (i.e. optional blinker fluid), is highly likely, but we wouldn't hear any adjustments until it's law. It's a waiting game for us consumers.
