Charger Broke - Lets see if warranty will cover it
I barely use my "occasional use charger" because my parking spot at work has a charge point charger and its free I keep the occasional use charger in the frunk just in case.
I decided to use the charger last night at my house, this morning went outside to unplug it, it was pretty hot, gave it a wiggle and it came apart.... now it doesn't work. I was able to unplug it and it appears to have burn the socket. Lets see if warranty will replace the charger. Stay tuned.

According to paperwork in the glove compartment of my new-to-me i3, BMW replaced the OUC in my car last November for the non-BMW dealer that I bought the car from. It looks brand new to me, and appears to be the same as ones that I've seen in online pictures...minus having an "i" logo on the front decal.
FWIW, the complaint on the shop order was that the car wouldn't charge, and the dealer included tear-down and testing of the charge socket under their performed work before replacing the OUC. Make sure that they do the same on your car, to verify that the car wasn't the cause of the cord meltdown.....

I doubt that the GFCI will protect you from a plug pin that gets hot due to an incomplete/loose connection, like the above appears to be. It does not act like a current-limiting circuit breaker in the event of a short.
I don't have the schematics of the OUC cable, but do know that the OpenEVSE hardware includes internal GFCI detection by design. I'm pretty sure that it is required in EVSE's by UL or somebody, so it may be worth verifying and also doing some research to see if having double GFCI causes any other problems.....

I got a check engine light in which it was most likely due to a charging error (according to the SA). He said if it happens again bring in the OUC and they'll troubleshoot and replace if necessary under warranty.

A question from a new user. My OUC for my new to me i3 that I purchased from a non-BMW dealer is made by Delphi but has NA BMW LL stickers on the cord. Is my OUC OEM or aftermarket?

Mine was allegedly replaced by BMW under warranty right before I bought my new-to-me car. It has the Delphi labels, but no BMW branding that I can see.....
