"Clean" design just means a lack of inspiration.

Sorry, I think you are missing one of the bases of modern design.

It's much easier to add embellishments than remove decor still keeping a design balanced and functional.

When you remove elements you are focusing all the attention to the remaining features, this is how you prove if the base design can work on his own.

Minimal is not lazy, as a great german architect/designer said in the past "less is more".

This logo, while still a concept, is a good attempt in that direction. And yes, the clear plastic element needs to be modified for obvious durability issues. But from a simple design perspective, I think is one of the more interesting things they put out lately.

Unfortunately some of the new recent BMW designs, on the other hand, are adding to many non balanced features to the cars (4, 2GC, X6m) this is way so many of us don't like them.

I have two reactions to this shit show of an introduction, and one to the logo itself.

Regarding the introduction, it seems that they're suggesting that they never intended to use it on vehicles, and only on letterheads and shit. That sounds like bullshit to me, and they just walked back the launch because of pressure. They introduced it on a VEHICLE, ffs.

But if it's true they just walked back an unpopular decision, then how come they did it with this one, instead of those fucking grills?? Would rather have a car with a dumb looking logo than a dumb looking car. But hey - partial credit for listening to your base on at least one thing (no sarcasm).

Regarding the logo, is it going to be transparent like that with predominantly white features, in all formats? Because that shit is going to be invisible on anything white, like you know...paper. Or a billboard. Or many websites. Was that not a consideration?

If they did listen it was because they presented the complete logo to us, not half or a drawing. The grilles for g8x were never presented nor shown full fledged with the car. We only got leaks and renders, the finished product as a whole might look good. Im sure bmw performed focus groups and big grilles were probably what most wanted. Besides if bmw only listened to enthusiasts we would still be driving e46 bmws with no airbags and no turbos and only manual transmissions and 335i's, turbo M cars and AWD M cars that crush the competition would not exist.
Lots of people here be acting like kids do with their parents. Relax, mommy and daddy probably know better and thats why you're getting big grilles 😂

Ok yeah, so the Verge observed the same thing. Marketers and "Brand consultants" are mocked a lot, and many times deservedly so, but their job is to make sure these things don't happen. I'm pretty sure BMW had those.

Or did they raise those issues and some hardheaded person at the top ignored them? The article also says that it looks like BMW is trying to copy an instagram startup, and.....lol. Maybe they are. How misguided.
