What about EVgo? Any offers on that?
I charged twice in the same day, under 30 minutes, there were no issues. EVgo is a separate company, so no.

You get 30 min free sessions with EA for two years. Pretty good incentive but Hyundai gives 3 years on Ioniq 5s, so BMW should have done the same.

Even VW gives you 3 years, the 2021 had unlimited charging, the 2022's, have the same first 30 mins is free as BMW.

I think VW owns some stake in Electrify America. Makes sense if they give free charging. I wonder if 2021 Id 4 became that popular due to free charging.

I thought that there were some free credits for EVgo.

VW owns and founded Electrify America as part of an agreement with the U.S. government to respond to the dieselgate scandal.

In my area, I don't feel like that many people just pilfer the free charging like Tesla owners do, but there are a lot of ID4s at EA chargers.

Lucid is also giving 3 years with EA, but total unlimited. No time limit on sessions. BMW should have done total unlimited for 2 years.

Bmw’s MyGarage mentions Panoramic Sky Lounge LED Roof as standard feature for ix. Does it have LED? How does it look at night?

It’s a recycled piece of text from other models. The roof does not have any LEDs.

Kind of unacceptable for a car this price. I plan on using it a lot just to get them back for being restrictive.

Correct, the proper terminology for the iX is Panoramic Eclipsing Roof.

Thank you for the write up as I'm considering a i7 to replace my 530e and idrive 8 is a big question to me. The input lockout can easily be coded off if that's an option for you. I did it on my other BMWs. It's under the Headunit menu and search speedlock_spellerinput and change to none. I code with bimmercode. I hope that helps. Keep racking up those family vacations. I look forward to your one year review.

@MCL

couple questions around car key, I assume you set up the UWB where you can use the phone as a fob (rather than needing to touch the phone/watch to the handle)
when you and wife are both in the car does it know which phone is in the driver seat and load the appropriate profile?
have you loaded onto an apple watch by chance and tried just the watch as a key fob?

Good tip! I don't believe coding support is available yet for the iX but eagerly awaiting it!

I haven't tested this extensively but just anecdotally, it appears to be whoever's phone the car first recognizes. It appears the car loads the profile when you approach the car (with unlock on approach setting on), so my naive observation has been whoever gets nearest to the car first is who's profile get loaded.

I don't have an Apple Watch so haven't tried it. Wife does but I believe she also always has her phone with her so hasn't tried with just the Watch.

"I really miss buttons for climate control. "

This makes your review practical, accurate, and very relevant. Thanks for sharing!

Appreciate the review, thank you. Somewhat mindboggling you pay $95K for a vehicle and you don't even get buttons to control the climate in the vehicle.

I understand it's all in the name of cost cutting, but leave that for the lower-end vehicles and not one that's nearly $100K.

However, the traditional, stereotypical buyer of a luxury car is not going camping in a tiny tent. They are either renting a cabin, or if they actually enjoy camping and sleeping outdoors, they buy a big sized tent that they can stand in. Having climate control in the car sure is nice but IMHO defeats the point of going camping in the first place.

But with that said, it would be a nice to have feature for some people, doesn't require any extra hardware and development costs on the software side to enable it should be minimal. I would occasionally use it when stuck waiting for my wife or kids somewhere. It would be nice for it not to stop the AC/heat every half hour or whatever the max time is on the iX but not really a big deal.
A dog mode would be appreciated. Let me leave the AC on for as long as I want.

Confirming that Apple Maps displays fully in the driver display. And even turn by turn shows in the HUD. Quite cool.

But the integration of the driver display and HUD does not work with google maps - in carplay or android auto (I have tried with both).

Personally, I'm most interested in the SOC integration that was announced but not yet available with Apple Maps which will allow Apple Maps to route plan (and pre condition) based on the vehicles SOC.

Worth noting that both profiles will be displayed upon entry so very easy to toggle between whatever profile is recognized. Regardless of which one is picked up/recognized first.
