OUTLOOK

Hi Everyone

I know there are some real computer gurus that hang out here. I replaced my hard drive today because the old one had bad sectors and was ready to fail at any time. So I backed up all my important files to cd. I even backed up my outlook. I saved it to a PST file. Now I reinstalled outlook and am tring to open the pst file (import) and it wont let me saying I dont have permissions? weird .. I did upgrade to outlook 2003 from the previous version (2002??)

Any ideas on how to retrieve my data?

Not sure if this matters, but are you talking Outlook XP or Outlook Express?

right click on the pst file go to properties. go to security, and make sure that your username is there and has at least read permission. problaby just make it full control. give that a shot

Maybe you can try to manually paste the .pst file into the regular outlook directory (I haven't tested this, but it's worth a shot)

Open My computer and go to: C:\Documents & Settings>(profile user)>Application Data>Microsoft>Outlook. Paste the .pst file into this directory. You will have to disable hidden folders to access the Application Data folder.

Let me know if this works.

Check to see if the .PST file is marked read only. That is most likely the case....

when you copy a pst file to a cd it is automatically set to read only. after you copy it to the new hard drive right click on file and to go properties, uncheck the read only. Also, you cannot import the pst file into outlook right from the cd, if you are trying to do that..

Here is a screen shot of what you need to check.
