i3/i3s 2020s delayed in USA?

Hi,

Does anyone know what is the real situation with the i3/i3s 2020s? According to the "2020 BMW i3 and i3s OrderingGuide", production started on 11/2019. We are almost in March 2020 and there is absolutely none 2020s but the special "Edition RoadStyle" (that is not fully equipped nor customizable). The funny thing is that BMW did update their website with the 2020s and his "special edition" is still being shown as a "coming soon" model".

Dealers can't order since they don't have production codes assigned for the i3s yet.

Much appreciated, thank you!

I am also hearing similar things to you, however there are 3 2020's posted on cars.com...but 1 looks to be a road style edition. I do hear there are 2020 allocations out there, but they vary by region (i.e., west and east coast)

So so glad I pulled the trigger and ordered a '19 back in Oct. The 20's have just been a cluster. If the 20 cars are loaded, just buy it that way. Its still the best bargain in the BMW line up. Mine with every option lease for $350 with tax on a 60K msrp.

Thought --
I don't know if this is a common or not for BMW but I remember BMW doing this with the e39 540i back on it's last year of that production. They made a special edition with M5 bumpers (and seats I think?) and then basically zero normal 540's. And it was nearly impossible to get one because they made so few the final year. My CA at the time said it was because BMW was trying to use up an over stock of e39 M5 parts as a last hurrah. Don't know if that's true but maybe BMW is trying to make just enough 2020 i3's to use up stock of parts here in its last year. So supply would be limited.

Except 2020 won't be the final model year.

Maybe related to ... battery update?

I wonder if BMW is planning to implement a battery update based on all the new iPerformance products that will be announced soon: iX3, i4, ...

Related thread?

I saw on his computer screen that my dealer here in Northern California had only two allocations so I grabbed one in mid-January. (I'm not sure if that's typical or not.)

No iX3 for the US (made in China, for China).

i4 may come, but in late 2021...
