I used to think so too, but I've come to appreciate it's bulldogish polarizing looks. Besides, they are already using a regular series body in the 330e, but here's not enough room for the same size battery and the electric range is extremely small. Considering the i3 is still RWD, is much lighter than even the 320 and 220, and near 50/50 weight distribution, it's actually a very fun car to drive even considering I drive an F80 M3 on the days that I am not in the i3. Dare I say that it has more of that old school road feeling? Probably because of it's slightly harsh ride compared to a non-sport 320i for example.

Also, I might be in the minority in this, but if I'm going to spend $50k on an electric BMW, I kind of want it to look distinctive. Out of all the 'economy' EV cars out there, only the Tesla 3, IMHO, gives that distinctive look. The VW e-Golf looks like a base level Golf, as does the A3 e-Tron. The leaf looks dinky, the Bolt still looks like an economy Chevy Spark. The i3 is distinctive, it's got character, and if you want to call it ugly, that's fine. At least, to me, it's not boring.

I love my f36 almost as much as my i3e they are all dope I rock petrol just as hard as I rock volts. Honestly I no longer believe it's just a quirky novelty car to be forgotten instead respected as a pioneer and fellow innovator of e power and it's application in motor sports and beyond. The i3 is real transportation utility sport tech all in one. Just 2 cents

Might I throw in I also was an owner of one of the Original Gen Scion XB's as well (Da Lunchbox as we called it).. I like the mildly quirky (distinctive) compact hatchbacks. But KIA Soul is a little too far over the edge for my taste, or maybe it was the Hamsters..

i3 is quirky, but purposeful...

You can schedule an extended test drive with an i3 at most BMW dealers. You get to drive it around for 2-3 days. I never even consider an i3 until i started looking into it as a
commuter car and did an extended test drive. I was sold within 15 minutes of driving it.

I've owned many cars and the i3 is impressive. It drives like nothing else on the road and its a blast to drive.

I ordered a 2017 fluid black i3 BEV with every option and should be here next week, cant wait! It's replacing my 13' X6 50i

I haven't watched the muscle car video yet, but if it's stock, 0-60 in the mid 7's would allow the hot I3 to show it's tail lights, but that doesn't make it a fast car. The i3s wouldn't stand a chance against a modern challenger.

Wow, just checked Autotrader for the hell of it. There are over 500 used i3's under $20k. That is some hefty depreciation. Over 50% in a couple years. Definitely lease, don't buy.

The head and tail lights give it a distinctive personality based around the question of "why did you make me so damn ugly a second time?"

Honestly, this thing can't even safely get me to and from work and a stop at the gym without gas. For my secondary satellite office I'd have to stop and charge along the way. That is some pitiful range numbers, and just like you guys are saying the power is probably understated the range is ALWAYS overstated.

The i3 is 'fast' for a car that wasn't designed to be 'fast'... that is the point worth making..

in this case the word 'fast' being relative..

The i3 needs to become better looking and faster to compete with the model 3 as well as longer range. Perhaps maybe become an all electric 3 series.

This will NEVER compete with the Tesla 3...in technology, range, size, and most of all, design/packaging. The i3 is a small, quirky realization of an EV more in line with the Bolt and Leaf.

It's a joke. They're matching it up against a 69/70 Charger that just burns rubber rather than hooking. No one in their right mind would want the BMW over the classic Charger.....smh....
