There are lots of cars you could replace the i8 with, but none that could equal the i8.
Can’t think of anything that looks as good, is as inexpensive to own, performs as well, and gets 40-45 mpg. For the price. |

I think it's why so many of us are already on our 2nd or 3rd i8- despite having other luxury vehicles. There's something gratifying this car gives that's simply special in comparison to the others.

Nothing really in the same category. 911 is closest, but not hybrid or as cheap to run of course. And nowhere near as cool.
NSX is next closest, but more expensive to buy and run, and much better in performance terms. |

Unless you are craving blistering acceleration, I can’t come up with a replacement either. I was thinking NSX for a while but I sat in one and it just didn’t seem as nice in the cabin. The seats were very comfortable but other than that I prefer the feel of the i8. It is certainly quicker than the i8 and I think it looks almost as good, but I would really miss the electric range. Even though the i8 is limited, it’s amazing how many errands I have run on electricity only. I am sure that we can all afford gasoline but I still get a kick out of averaging 44 mpg overall. I love the two personalities of the car. The only other car that I can think of that competes without spending over $1,000,000 is the Panamera Turbo S e-Hybrid. It is faster than the i8 and it has decent electric range but it costs more, doesn’t get great mileage and it’s a boat. I even thought about a Tesla Model 3 Performance and took one for a test drive. It is very quick but looks matter to me and I don’t care how how much cool tech it has, I think it looks like a duck. Besides, they are a dime a dozen where I live and I enjoy driving something that looks like nothing else. If the rumors are right about a more powerful i8 in the pipeline, that will be my next car.

Good question, I switched to this. What it lacks in exotic looks, it surpasses in acceleration and utility. Plus, it has auto-pilot.

I looked at Tesla but personally (and again this is my personal opinion) the interior quality is cheap...reminds me of Toyota Corolla

^ this.
Autopilot is just an accident waiting to happen. If I'm going to be in a crash, I want to pinpoint the fault on either myself or the driver. Not some computer.

I have an i8 and Tesla Model 3 Performance. Despite the fact that the Tesla has an amazing acceleration, is full driver assisting systems, and has so many gimmicks, I prefer to drive to work in my i8. Today I don't see a better choice than the i8 and am waiting to test drive the upcoming Tesla Roadster.

C8 is a game changer. No electric and no rear seats, so not in my i8 Goldilocks niche, but quite impressive.

Tesla Roadster
If they improve the build quality and reliability, this is actually a car I have my eye on as a possible daily.
Elon also needs to stop smoking the funny stuff, and lay off the stupid options like cold jet thrusters So that the car is actually produced, and meets the claims made. Critically, it must have usable rear seats, which I doubt it will. I need adult size headroom in the rear, for a daily car. i8 rear no longer really works for me either now my kids are bigger. And I've certainly no need of another 2 seat car. |
