This is a very interesting build and I'm looking forward to it.

I have to say though adding the engine in front and getting rid of the electric engine takes away a lot of what makes the i8 so great. I would have much rather seen them try to install the M4 engine in the mid while keeping the electric engines.

That being said this is going to be an interesting build.

S55 would have been a great upgrade as well as more powerful electric motors

That's an N63, but still a fun project. Elimination of all the hybrid drive components not only will be challenging, but offensive to some. I personally would like to hear it run and see it drive. The sound of a twin turbo V8 from the i12 would be a site for sore eyes.

The crop tops really sell this project.

But in all seriousness, if Alpina is involved, I'm all for it.

Imo not a very good excercise. I'd rather see them get more power out off the 3cyl or drop a i4 in with 400hp in. Or better battery tech, bigger electric motors, etc... This is just an old school way of thinking, cram a v8 in, albeit very difficult.

The GTS version of the M4 engine, better capacity battery and bigger electric motor = 650+ HP AND a more elegant solution than jamming that huge engine in the front of the vehicle. I'd lose the vestigial back seats, as well.

I applaud their passion, I just question their path of execution.

Cheers-mk

Yes it defeats the purpose and eliminates the efforts of weight loss.
But most of all it turns the i8 into a sports car just not the unique progressive sports car it was born to be. The car that has been praised and awarded for its convention defying philosophy.
They just could not wait for the next phase of the i8.

+1

There was room for this as well as the i8 and I think BMW missed out leaving another company to develop this. Halo cars serve a greater purpose than simply being sold to rich folk.

Hahah hinting at something there are you Scott?

Well there's only a month until the anniversary in 2016... Little to no info on any i8 spin offs to date
