Forgot some other major revisions

The e drive badge is to lose its blue border
The door opening trims (like pure impulse) on the top level interior options to have a revised logo

I completely removed the eDrive badge on mine anyways. To many badges on the back of the car looks a lot cleaner now with just i8 & BMW...Plus i mean who cares about a eDrive badge lol its not like its big bragging rights I think they just slap those things on trying to figure out what another badge is they can put on the car lol

Is it only free for ones on order? What about 2014 models people already have? It can be retrofitted but you just have to pay or still free?

I'm highly skeptical of them making anything retroactive officially available. They aren't just going to pass out replacement LCD touchscreen keys for free for everyone at the very least.

I did ask that question and the bulletin stated as the smart key has been released cars undelivered (mine was built last week) would get it for free. I'm sure the car electronics are ready and waiting so it's just the trim with wireless charger the key and programming so should be reasonable cost

By "cars undelivered" do you mean 2016s only (I assume there aren't any 2015 left undelivered). Can we confirm whether or not 14s and 15s can retrofit the key as well? I want to jump in on this ASAP.

I don't think there is a 2016 car as such just some very minor revisions to trim and laser light availability. Mine is 2016 as it was built in 2016 that's all and was ordered in October.

The tone of the bulletin was all i8's didn't exclude older cars

From my understanding the key had problems at launch date so wasn't included and is now part of the package at no extra charge I believe.

For BMW to give away 10000+ or whatever number have been built keys plus fitting is a big ask but worth a try - get in there !

Twitch its SuperStar O. Let me know what you find out. I need this key ASAP too lol been waiting forever. I'm sure we will have to pay for the fit it wont be free for undelivered cars I wouldn't expect but I'm willing to pay I just need to know when can we take our cars in to the dealers & pay them to do it?

Talking to different people including people at my dealer. Hearing it's going to be retrofittable. Getting the vibe they want me to pay for mine, but hearing from some early adopters that they were promised a free key with their 14s as it was on the brochure as a key feature when they were sold on the car so... Seems some very early adopters might get them for free too but don't think I will. I want it regardless of cost. Just wondering how much it is. I'm expecting anywhere between $500-$1k. Hopefully it's on the lower end of that range since I also plan to order the OEM carbon trim. Another concern of mine is the charging of said key. My good friend just got a new 7 today and brought it around so I could poke around. On the 7 the key charges from the built in wireless charger. There's an OEM wireless charger that can be installed in the smartphone snap in adapter spot on the i8 but I'm not sure if this one will charge the key as well (and if it can this would be another added cost to us). The brochure shows the key resting in a slot in front of the gear selector, not sure if this is where they intended to place the charger on the i8 and/or whether or not they still plan to or even can place one there (I know the plastic piece currently there is easily removable and have always suspected that's the reason but I'm not sure). Otherwise the key has a USB connector which should obviously be another way of charging the key.

Anyone know how the smart key functionality compares with the smartphone app?
I have a feeling it may not be much better. I'd prefer not to worry about keeping yet another device charged.

If its like the 7 series great as it connects locally to the cars WiFi and when away from the car via its inbuilt GSM connection.

If GSM it would be just like the app not pretty similar to the iwatch

Does the guy with the 7 know if there are any ongoing costs for the keys GSM connection or is it included with the internet connection cost ?

The key has 2 batteries one for normal functions unlocking etc. and one rechargeable for the display
