Had some road debris come flying across the hood of my car and knock off the back cover of the passenger side mirror.

Looking at it, it looks like the rest of the mirror unit is intact. It is functioning - the mirror moves, the entire assembly motor rolls in, and the cameras are working.

I'm hoping I can just replace the back cover.

Anyone with any experience repairing/replacing the side mirrors (2020 i8 coupe)?

Added some pics. I just noticed that it looks like some of the clips from the main housing are still intact.

So the dealership is telling me this broken wire can't be repaired, or replaced. The only option is replacing the entire unit for around $500.
Brings the total repair to just under $1000.

Back in my days of driving beaters, I wouldn't think twice about soldering this together or figuring out someway to make the connection.

Yes, I'll probably end up replacing it in the end.

Fix the wire yourself, solder, as you say. I would.

Then buy the cover from bmw. They are being stupid. Your part will end up on ebay for $200.

This! Looks like a 5min Job to me.

My wife was quoted £350 for a boot lid loom in her Golf.

2 wires split, I fixed in 10 mins to solder and insulate. Rear washer and wiper all working again for about £5.

I replaced the back cover on my previous car. Was about £70 I think. Good thing is they are all black so no painting, etc.

I think I had to pop the mirror out (followed a YouTube video - it just pops off) to access the retaining screws, but not that sure - I've slept since then ;-)

I actually had to pop the mirror back on, it had popped off with the impact.

Sigh...much to the dismay of my conscience, I have this suspicion that I'm going to wimp out and pay the ripoff sucker price to have BMW do the repair lol

Maybe I'll try and sell the damaged mirror on ebay.

I had a tool box bounce out of a truck in front of me on the highway going about 90mph in my M3; swerved left right left, almost dodged a zillion pieces flying at me, but alas, the tool box itself got my side mirror. I had to fix a wire and cable, and CF cover. The truck's business insurance cut me a check so all was good.
