BMW i8 induction noise mod. I can hear the turbo!
I've been reading how BMW incorporated a resonator, or silencer, in the air stream on the intake between the air filter box and the turbo, in order to reduce turbo noise outside the car.
http://www.jeccomposites.com/knowled...bre-reinforced So, I went searching for this part (BMW part number 13718639010) from PacificMotors.com and disassembled it. Pacific Motors sells salvage parts and I got it for $100, shipped. I decided to cut it open with a dremel tool in order to see what it was made of, and made a modification to it before putting it back together. I then decided to put it on the BMW i8 just to see if it altered the induction noise. It now it sounds like a McLaren with a roof scoop! I unlocked the BMW i8 turbo noise! I don't intend to build more of these, sell them or market them. This was just a test to see how it worked. If you decide to do the mod, know that you risk having your mistakes flow directly into your turbo. Also, the flap on the air box needs to be removed, otherwise this it will not sound like this.
