LCI - Bonnet / Hood Air vents ?

I've seen a few 2018s with pre-LCI bonnet air intakes - the car itself is October 2018 so well within the LCI model year. Is this indicative that the car itself is not LCI?

Or could you get LCI without bonnet changes? Was this a late 2018 change?
For example this one was May 18.

Thanks!

Do not think its an LCI model . They have the word “coupe “ over the rear quarter windows which is a quick and easy way to identity.

Thanks! This is the car I'm looking at. October 18. I thought all 2018 models had the revised battery / LCI changes? Cheers!

Dealer has confirmed not an LCI. It looks like there were a lot of UK cars with upgraded batteries in 2018 that were pre-LCI, and LCI only kicked in perhaps late 2018 - even as late as November there were some cars that were pre-LCI and some LCI. Both had bigger batteries.

Update: This isn't correct. Pre-LCIs even in 2018 did not come with upgraded batteries - an Autotrader UK listing fault would list pre-LCI 18 plates as having bigger batteries in the description, even though they weren't LCIs.

Weirdly if you look up the car on the dealer website , the description ( sophisto grey ) does not tally with the photos ? Unless wrapped or something .

True. It's BMW management stock. Y number gives it away (Doncaster reg). Probably ex management or press. Special paint job though - look at the rear colouring.

I'm not aware of any pre-LCI cars having the battery upgrade and I would be wary of what dealers may tell you about the i8, they know less than the people on this forum. That is definitely a pre-LCI car just late registered for some reason. LCI models launched in June 2018 in the UK, you can find plenty of that era in the classifieds.

Absolutely love the colour though!!

The mechanic sef of my car dealership told me that there are
some preLCIs with larger batteries produced in late 2017 and that he has seen one. Why and why he didn't know it either. He thinks they were intended for BMW executives.

Does not look like it as there is no Coupe tag on the side quarter window.

If you check Autotrader all the 2018 cars are all listed as larger batterys at 10 ish kWh.

The 2017 plates are listed as 7 kw. And the 2019s are listed as LCI. Very bizarre, but it's what's on Autotrader at least!

When you first told me this I was unsure, I really don’t think any pre LCI had a bigger battery despite what you see on Autotrader. Non BMW dealers (and some BMW dealers) aren’t that familiar with the car and will add information that they find which may not relate to that particular car.

It looks like you're absolutely right - I've just had a play adding a car to Autotrader and it's a flawed recognition algorithm, it will add any 2018 car as a 'i8 Coupe 18 - Current' rather than 'i8 Coupe 14-18' - therefore it will list it as a 11.7 kw car. Either the sellers don't know this or they will claim ignorance that Autotrader did it automatically!

Either way, mystery solved!

Happens a lot on Autotrader if the seller just allows the site to auto complete the car details based on age. Not good and not clever!
