Yellow engine light - emissions?

Just noticed the yellow engine light - manual says "emissions problem".
Any experience w this? I thought it might be loose gas cap, but that was tight.
Thanks!

Garage List
2015 BMW i8  [10.00]
1970 Porsche 914-6  [0.00]
2018 BMW i3s REx  [0.00]
Could be one of about 50 different fault codes.
If it doesn’t reset itself automatically after about 30 miles because of something like a loose gas cap or ICE misfire all you can do is take it to the dealer to read the codes.
Your local repair shop, with a OBD code reader won’t be able to decipher the fault codes unless they have a license agreement with BMW specifically for the i8.
On the bright side... the CEL is only emissions related. It won’t leave you stranded.

Weird timing.
I just had the exact same issue today.
Or at least I noticed it today, the engine light is hidden by the steering wheel, so there's a chance I might not have noticed it.

I sure hope it is just an emissions thing. I did check the gas cap and all was fine.

I did notice a couple of days ago that the car didn't respond properly in regular drive mode, when I was accelerating to merge onto the highway.
I did just yesterday fill the gas tank to the top, maybe if the gas comes down ...

Oh, and of course, planning on returning the car as my lease is up in a week or so. Did the Autovin and the light wasn't on then.

Let's see what happens over the next few days.

I used my OBD reader, and it read it as:

P018B - fuel pressure sensor error
Status - permanent

Anyone have any experience with clearing errors?
The free app that came with my OBD reader has an option to clear errors, with a warning that a bunch of other data will get erased and the car may drive 'rough' for a little while.
The other option is buying bimmerlink to erase the code, not sure if that would be any different though.

turned out to be an air conditioning compressor code, when tested no problem. Like rastaman, the steering wheel obscured the light, so I'm not sure when it popped up.

I ended up buying bimmerlink.
It gave me 2 permanent errors:
FFCB95 - Range Extender Electrical Machine Electronics
FF21B0 - Digital Motor Electronics

8 pages of errors in the error info memory.
I think today I'll try clearing them see what happens.

Yes indeed! My new car is stuck at the port in the states.
Engine light is off.
Hopefully stays off.

Hello,

After reprogramming at a BMW dealership, I had the same thing. Coughing engine, yellow light on, no longer goes electric. After stopping overnight, it restarted as before, as if the car has returned to the earlier version of the schedule.

Mine just came on but the code said something with high voltage battery- which why is my engine light on if it’s a high voltage battery code??? I know there is a light that comes in if there is an issue with battery. Anyone else get this code does this mean I need a new HV battery????? I sure hope not- that’s a 20k fix!!!!

If your light is on, it typically means the car's emissions control system is faulty, and the vehicle is polluting the air beyond allowable federal standards. A vehicle in this condition would fail an emissions inspection or smog check. Don't confuse the check engine light with the maintenance or service light.
