I saw one of these on the road near Palm Springs, California the other day. I wasn't too far from the Thermal track, so I'm wondering if it was a BMW employee.

Is the ambient/accent lighting turned down in the second video, or has BMW seriously muted this experience in the iX (mainly to the line where the windows retract)? My X7's 1st and 2nd rows pop. 2nd row has lightning in the back of the 1st-row seats.

Could be an employee.They have been working on the software in the SF area for this for sometime now.

Both BMW & MB offices were in Palo Alto and Porsche software group is in San José.

Really, really wanted to like this but the interior just reminds me too much of a jewelry box with all of the crystal effects and pillow diamond stitching. Waiting in the wings for a sportier take…

externally in black it should look good (any blue bits blackened off) and a million miles better than any ev suv around... in other colours not so sure due to the non body coloured black plastics around

Definitely less lighting than expected.
Apart from the LED strip at the doors, there are also projection lighting at the door handles and also some lighting at the storage bin at the doors, plus the usual lighting at the floor.

The iX is literally a collection of contradictions, aggregation of outcomes resulting from enigmatic design decisions, and a convincing non-candidate for a segment leader. It has the least purposeful visual appearance of any electric SUV - if one can call it an SUV.

To contrast, Land Rover Defender 110 is selling exceptionally well because there isn't any doubt why this vehicle was built the way it was built.

If Sylvester Stallone decides to remake Judge Dredd, BMW ought to buy product placement spots for iX. That's where it belongs in the current form.

I'm sorry but what do you love about it. It doesn't look functional at all. Every climate button is gone, you have to press MENU to change the fan speed or turn on seat heating. All the iDrive buttons are capacitive with no dividers between them, how are you supposed to navigate that soup while driving the car without looking down and studying it? Real buttons with different shapes and textures are like that for a reason, so you can grab it and use it effortlessly.

Nothing here is really an upgrade over what we have in current cars, they just put the screens together with lots of black space around them, it doesn't look natural at all compared to current cars with the recessed instrument screen and the infotainment screen that kind of springs out of it.
