Trust me, when I moved there, I thought the same. No income tax...nice! another 5k to 7k savings. However, wait until you see the gas prices and living expenses. You would be happy to pay income tax in AR then

Everything gets offset. There is no such a thing called free lunch

Let's hope the OP isn't a noob data scientist, he'll be able to afford the taxes.

Idk what's going to crush him first, cleaning data all day long or the traffic to work. That's a brutal way to live

lol i am early in my career so not an expert yet but working hard to become one. I am going to be walking to work so gas prices should not be much of issue. How much do you think one should be making to live comfortable there?

In my humble opinion, traffic and all doesn't matter if you can get laid and are not lonely.

Yes if you are planing to go skiing. Sometimes they are required and you will not have to worry in the low lands if snows. People can’t drive around here in any type of conditions.

I've never needed snow tires but I don't go when there is a storm.

how about just driving around? Is 40 degrees not "too hot" for winter tires?

I have a winter set and a summer set. My car is rwd and I have rf tires so they are horrible in cold weather. Just the smallest amount of snow makes it impossible to get around.

For me it piece of mind that if I am out and about and it snows I can make it home especially when I have my daughter in my car.

Now if I had an awd or a fwd vehicle my concern wouldn’t be as great if at all.

You'll be pretty comfortable if you're over 100k, but you won't be saving/buying nice things till you're around 200.

I'm a dev, and have worked directly with legit data scientists. They make good money after getting a ton of experience.

I really like the outdoors that Seattle offers. If it wasn't so expensive to live there I would consider it. I live in CA so not massively different but I have roots here.

Haha yeahhh sure

But serious, yes it's cloudy and raining during the winter month but it's really nice during spring and summer here. It's not burning hot that you can't do anything. Winters we get done snow as well.

Yes, 100k+ household income will allow for a well lifestyle. I would recommend looking a little bit out of Seattle (~50 miles) such as Renton, Auburn, Bellevue and others

not trying to brag or anything but my compensation is above 100 plus my wife is going to be working, so i think we are good for now. we are renting for the 1st year but will try to buy a condo or apartment after 1st year if we will like living in downtown. Or might move east and try to get a house, but i dont want to deal with commute
