Unhappy Comfort heating/cooling deactivated to ensure the starting of the vehicle

Every once in a while, when I get into the car I noticed that regularly scheduled preconditioning did not run, and I see this on the screen:

"Heating / cooling:

Comfort heating/cooling deactivated to ensure the starting of the vehicle. See Owner's Manual for more information."

When this happens, car has about ~70% of its battery charged. I couldn't see anything about this in the manual. Any ideas?

Did the car do a few preconditioning cycles in a row without you actually going for a drive?

Ah, I think you're right! But I am curious why this matters?

Because if you forget to disable a schedule, and go on a long vacation or leave of absence, the car will drain the battery trying to precondition itself for nothing. So the car may tolerate only a few of these preconditionings without actually going for a drive.

Jaguar I-Pace does the same thing. After a few precondition cycles (or even remote pre-climate commands) and the car is not driven..the app actually stops working

I think you’re referring to the 12V battery, yes?

No. The car uses the big boy battery to precondition the car.

I’m well aware of that but it would take many, many ‘Pre-conditionings’ to even begin to be concerning re: SoC unless you started really low, and then I bet the car wouldn’t allow it anyway.

How much battery it takes depends on the temperature. But in cold weather, it can easily use 2% each time if not more. Sure at 70% it would take many accidental preconditions to draw down the battery to a dangerous level but the car doesn't know how much of that SOC you need and are relying on when you actually come back to use your car. So they must have a limit to prevent this problem and it makes perfect sense to me.
