Do You Really Need EV-Specific Tires? | Tire Rack
This is a superb video and while we all are smart in this area, it is still imo an excellent video for every one of us to watch in its entirely if we ever will be getting replacement tires for any of our EV’s.
Full disclosure I am a user of TireRack, in fact using their on line free research in choosing the new tires that I right away put on our iX M60 (Michelin PS A/S 4’s) and used TR in choosing the tires for our previous plug in. I use their one line research and also at times direct buy from them. |

Well I'm going to find out soon.
My m60 21s are just about worn out at 15k miles. I got bored with the BMW rims and instead of buying new aftermarket rims I got some adapters for 200.00 and am going to run my left over Jeep SRT 20s that I like better. 1 inch front adapters and 19mm rear These were my winter rims with 275/50/20 snow tires I ordered some V rated to 149 mph Summit 265/50/20s allegedly good for about 50-60k miles that were 506.00 for 4. Will see how long they last and their efficiency. Currently get about 210 miles at 80% in spring/summer weather. https://www.ebay.com/itm/176137107353 I'm going to mount them on my SRT Black Vapor chrome OEM wheels. Tires just came in so I should have them on the M60 by tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll let the board know how it goes. |

All oem SRT wheels are forged from one piece of aerospace grade 6061-T6 aluminum. My Jeep SRT weighted 5500 lb empty 5740 w full tank plus 6-800 lb for 4 people plus luggage vs 5800 lb empty bmw A buddy has been running China made replicas on a dodge durango that weighs 5700 lb empty. Add 240 lb for gas 3-400 lb for 2 people 6-800 lb for 4 plus luggage. I had no issues running the China made replicas as winter wheels with a 700 hp forged SC 426 but my Vapor Chrome wheels are forged oem. All my wheels and US made billet spacers are properly torqued to 90 ft/lbs with a clicking torque wrench. Summit Tires 107W – Load 975 kg (approx 2148 lbs), Speed 270 km/h (approx 168 mph) Should be fine @ 8592 lb load rating Last edited by M60Cruiser; 03-12-2024 at 03:41 AM.. |

Yes
The Black Vapor Chrome SRT wheels were only available 2013-16 on Jeep SRTs. FCA had warranty claims from peeling coatings so they went with a powder coat but it was not as nice. All the ebay aftermarket coated black chrome are not as nice mostly black with no or not much chrome. You can still find them used on ebay for 350-400.00 but I had a second 6 wheels I had collected. I let a set go after my Trackhawk got written off. I was going to put them on my SRT but I put the black Trackhawk wheels on it and traded it in for a 2021 Tesla Model S Plaid with it's next level 0-60 in 2.1 seconds 1/4 mile 9.4 seconds at 151 mph. So now the SRT Black Vapor Chromes will live again on my M60. Truly unique for a BMW. Last edited by M60Cruiser; 03-12-2024 at 10:40 AM.. |

My EV BMW tires didn't seem like anything special and they wore out in 15k miles. $500.00 for 4 V tires rated for 50k miles is hard to beat. If I get half of that it will be awesome. The M60 is my citizen mobile while the Plaid is my drive it like you stole it crazy fun car. |

Aside from being hard on suspension components, I suspect BMW could use them as an excuse to void parts of your warranty. I’ve run adapters of similar size on my Rubicon…while they work as intended and ball joints on the Jeep have worn prematurely. I’m extremely diligent about retorqueing them when I rotate tires every 5,000 miles. Good luck! |

I pay cash for my cars and could easily fund expensive repairs should I have to. I mostly drive my insanely fast 1020 hp Tesla Model S Plaid and not so much the M60 any more. It's like my winter car. I have my own private lift and auto shop in my industrial facility. I use a clicking torque wrench on my wheels especially for this application. If I get any suspension issues I would put the stock wheels and tires back on if I took it to the dealer. As a further note I failed to notice that the oem forged Jeep wheels do not have the reliefs in the hub like the aftermarket ones I have do to facilitate the wheel bolts that stick out 1/2" Aftermarket SRT OEM SRT BMW oem bolts So I found some shallow head wheel locks in the BMW oem thread that won't stick out of the adapters and ordered 20. Also I wasn't happy with the supplied nuts for the adapters So I also ordered some longer splined hardened wheel nuts. I should have these parts in by monday. Added this mini diffuser I got on ebay for 45.00 for the Plaid but liked it better on the BMW Last edited by M60Cruiser; 03-14-2024 at 08:11 AM.. |

I would love to hear how moch real world difference the foam lined ev tires make in terms of road noise reduction.
I have always preferred E Rated tires like the Michelin LTX ones, which last forever and are too tough for road hazards (I drive really bad roads by preferance when my time allows). Many of these EV tires look like junk, but I also like range efficiency. |

Ok
I ordered 20 wheel locks on ebay that took 8 days but they finally arrived today. Now the adapters are flush and my oem Jeep SRT Black Vapor Chrome wheels fit great with the 265/50/20 tires that were only 504.00 for 4 with a 50-60k life rating. If I get 1/2 of that I'll be happy as my oem tires are done at 15k miles. I like them a lot better than the oem BMW wheels and the cost for the adapters, locks and nuts was only 320.00 Plus it's so much easier to install wheels on studs instead of bolts. |

I found the M60 21s range disappointing compared to my Tesla Model S Plaid with 21s I'll see what kind of range I get with these. I like the style and the Vapor Chrome on these oem Jeep wheels and I already had them. The M60 is also now my second car. So life is choices. Last edited by M60Cruiser; 03-20-2024 at 05:23 PM.. |
