Steering wheel straight?

I spent a bit of time in the iX this weekend (it's not my daily driver unfortunately, but my partners car) and have come to the conclusion the steering wheel is not quite straight. Quite noticeable when using diver assistance and heading down straight highway I feel the car is set to head to the right ever so slightly.

I'm open to the idea it's an optical illusion due to the way the displays and dash are shaped, but my feeling is our wheel is turned slightly to the right when actually set straight ahead. What do others see in their iX?

Our M60 has had the steering wheel module recall (0032310300) performed, which does require the wheel to be taken off I think so it's possible it was not properly centred as part of that process?

This gets further accentuated by the fact that the steering wheel is not round

I've swapped steering wheels before, and it's totally possible to misalign one slightly, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was off by a few degrees.

Odds are it was just barely misaligned when they did the service. Take it back and have them take a look.

However, if you aren't the only person to drive the car, perhaps one of the others hit a curb or something causing the car to be misaligned. When this happened to us, my wife(the one who hit the nasty curb) somehow didn't notice that she not had to turn the wheel almost 90 degrees to the right in order to go straight, but the instant i drove the car i noticed it right away. It was expensive enough that it ended up being an insurance claim. And, to be fair, it was not obvious when looking at the car visually that there was something wrong.

Do you have to constantly correct the steering wheel to get the vehicle to go straight? If so, you need a four-wheel alignment.

If the vehicle goes straight without too much effort, but the steering wheel is misaligned, then you only need to realign it.

The car drives well, so I don't think it's wheel alignment at all, just the position of the wheel.

Our M60 steering wheel is ever so slightly cocked to the right. Our iX 50 seems dead center.

My i4 M50 and now our son's e40...steering wheel is dead center.

My '22 530e....steering wheel is slightly cocked to the right, even after BMW Service verified the steering wheel was not centered, they did a slight alignment and supposedly "adjusted the steering wheel".

It seems a crap shoot with BMW. But, still better than Tesla. Most need an actual 4 wheel alignment the day you drive off the lot

Just a followup update from my dealer, recall 0032310300 does not require the wheel to be removed, so that would not be the cause of issue.

Update: The M60 was in at the dealer yesterday to take care of campaign 0065020400, get 11/2022.30 and also have the steering wheel checked.

The wheel is perfectly to spec, and wheel alignment was perfect too. So it's a normal iX thing that to some that the wheel appears slightly cocked to the right. I checked another iX there, and another one I saw a few days ago and they're all the same. Mostly an optical illusion from the curvature of the dash I think.

All roads are slanted or curved for drainage purposes. Your steering wheel will never be perfectly straight unless you are driving on a perfectly level surface or you ask the alignment tech to compensate for this (but then your wheel will be crooked on flat surfaces). The HOV lane is usually the flattest because it is at the apex of the road. Try driving in HOV lane and see how that goes.

My 2023 M60 steering wheel also feels like it is slightly cocked to the right. I've only had the car for a couple of weeks now, but it's starting to bother me. I wonder if this is covered in the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Should be a super easy fix within the front suspension set up. It is on most cars…but then again this is a BMW.

Unless there is an issue with the actual alignment, the Steering Wheel position is probably centered electronically I'm guessing.

Time for a dealer visit?

Road crowning. Definitely a real thing and a lot of people misdiagnose steering wheel alignment issues to this.

If you feel the steering wheel is genuinely off after resting on several different roads and eliminating road crown from skewing your perception of the wheel, bring to BMW. Alignment can be performed under warranty within certain time frame/mileage after new vehicle delivery. Steering wheel is mechanically connected to the steering rack and not electronically adjusted as one user suggested.

It's road crowning. HOV lanes have the least crowning. Hop into that lane and see if you notice a difference.

I have the same issue in my 2023. I didn't notice it at first, but it's been driving me nuts. It's not the alignment, it's the steering wheel being cocked to the right a bit. The dealer quoted me 200 to do an alignment. I wonder how much it'd be just to re-center the steering wheel.
