Wow...we bought TWO ix and we did not get this document, and the dealer even point blank said that while the kick to open trunk is 100% a retrofit, BMW will not be paying for it (hence the $100 credit on the window sticker).

Lucky mom you have!

I bought an iX as well and didn’t get one either

I would take this blank document to your dealer and ask about it. I plan to do the same when I bring my iX into the local dealer for ista programming of the retrofit. I bought my iX from Alaska, but had it shipped to NJ to a sister dealer for a courtesy delivery. My local servicing dealership is not the same as the sister store, so I’ll let you know what they say.

I just sent this document to my salesman (we have bought 3 i cars from him and the Alpina). Let's see what he says

Thank you for providing this retrofit document; much appreciated.

Big props to CaboM4

I took that PDF to the dealership when I took delivery today and they honored it. I signed it and they put it in my file. Will be curious to see when it can be performed.

I've been lurking around this site for some time just doing some research.

I placed an order for a 2023 iX xDrive50i this week and was a bit bummed that there was no hands free liftgate.

Created an account just to download the pdf, but thank you so much for providing this. Will try my luck with my dealer since it's a feature I'd like to have.

I guess I could try seeing if I could get a credit for not having the "selfie camera" feature available either even though there's zero use case for me to have it.

I took a look under the bumper on my ix produced at the end of June without the hands free tailgate opener.

I didn't see any zip tied or unused connectors. I didn't drop the whole under plate so I struggled to get any good pictures.

Edit: Looking at the docs for the opener, it looks similar to whatever that yellow wire is and the wire next to it. There may be a third but I couldn't see it. They are plugged into something but I can't tell if it's a module or if it's some kind of blank holder.

The photo shows the module identified as no 3 in the part photo (evaluation electronics). It's difficult to tell from the photo but maybe connector 3 which goes to the upper sensor is not there, which may be the missing component. But that's 100% a guess...

Update:

I got back under the car, both sensors are wired up along with power and signal.

I unplugged one of the sensors and the module is real, has pins, not a dummy like I suspected.

So what the heck? All the hardware is there and yet I have the option deleted and not available in idrive, I'm stumped.

very strange! I haven't got under mine yet to see what might be missing/present. I guess I should do that being as I have $500 of parts in the trunk that I was planning to install and have the dealer code for me!

Did you get your dealer to agree to code it for you?

It'd be great if we could still do this ourselves, I'd love to just turn it on and see if it works.

Maybe I'll check to see if the fuses are in for the module too.

My SA sent a message to the service director who is on vacation … awaiting an answer to confirm it’s in the official ISTA vehicle modifications, then they’ll schedule me for the install/coding

Was anyone able to confirm if the module is "real" for those with deleted tailgate?

It appears to be real. Unplugging connectors shows it has pins like a real module.

Interesting, so I wonder what the deletion was related to then?

I pulled down my plastic panels covering the underside of the bumper cover to find the sensors and evaluation module present, WTF!

However, I did manage to grab a photo of the evaluation module to get the part number off of it, and it does not match the "correct" module part number (61355A562D6).

The module installed in my June 15, 2022 built iXM60 is: 61355A4F7E5. I can find no information on this part number that is installed on my vehicle. A bit of a pain in the dick to grab the picture, but was doable.

hugo_nz
I know your vehicle has a functional handsfree tailgate system ... would you mind dropping a few 8mm screws and 2 12mm nuts to remove the cover and snap a photo of the top edge of your evaluation module to get the part number installed in your vehicle?

I still can't get a straight answer out of my dealership about being able to code the official "vehicle modification" with ISTA+. Not sure if they are purposefully pushing off an answer, knowing something they are not willing to disclose, or if they just don't give a shit to find out for me?

I can't find this part in the ETK price list either! 61355A4F7E5

Wondering if its just a dummy "module" with no electronics inside, but connectors to keep the wiring connectors clean and safe for future module swap?

I checked the part numbers for both the USA and ECE models. There are two modules listed, but neither carry the part number on the module in the photo...

I was just reading in the i4 forum that apparently these are fake modules that have some kind of resistor in place to keep the lin bus happy.

At least that module you ordered is easy to pop in? Lol

Well there you go then.

I guess I’ll swap it in and see what happens. I just left it alone for now. Figured I’d do more research first on what exactly that module was since the “right one” cost me $450 and is still in the sealed bag
