That would make some sense since the sensors hardware in itself is pretty low-tech.

Hey Cabo, was wondering if you swapped it in and if it worked? I've had multiple occasions where having it retrofitted would haven't made my life so much better.

My ix50 is in status 150 now and expecting to start production next week. In the final build sheet sent by my SA, I don't see the tailgate delete with -$100 listed. Does it mean the tailgate is included or it is excluded from special package-9? Even though I see the "Comfort Access keyless entry" listed in special package-9.

Yes my understanding is that they are adding these back and no longer deleting them.
As an update, got a nail in one of my tires so I needed to go into the shop. Had the bmw dealer plug the tire and check the vehicle with ista. Shop foreman said there is no official retrofit coding in ista yet to perform the official retrofit, despite the test plan indicating there is one, as my vehicle is throwing a fault code since installing the correct tailgate evaluation electronics module and not yet being coded! |

The only part you need is: 61355A562D6, however you need BMW to provide the requisite coding in ISTA for the dealers to compelte a "vehicle modification" for official retrofit coding. My shop foreman says its not yet available. |

Sounds like they're confused about whether the iX has run flat tires (which sometimes shouldn't be plugged based on manufacturer recommendations, but often are without negative effects) - and I'm dubious BMWNA told them not to, or at least they misinterpreted. No reason I know of that an aero tire can't be plugged, depending on the damage, although using the included foam canister for a repair probably wrecks the interior tire core.

No they still won’t code the trunk sensor, says the software still isn’t showing this as an official “vehicle modification” in ista.
I guess I’ll find out tomorrow when I go back again for another nail in a different tire!! |

Your dealership can 100% perform the coding with the software available on their shop computers today. All you need to do is pay them to purchase and install the "Handsfree Tailgate Evaluation Module", or do it yourself in about 7 minutes total with a 8mm & 12mm socket set to remove the center rear bumper plastic shroud, and unplug the 3 connectors from the module, pop out the dummy module and install the real module and reconnect the connectors! Part #: 61355A562D6 Lowest Price online: $299.52 https://parts.bmwnorthwest.com/p/bmw...355A562D6.html |

CaboM4: Did you have to pay the dealership to flash the relevant ISTA version?
Mine mentioned that it would cost ~$350 to do so. Sounds pretty steep to me, considering we only got ~$200 credit for the delete. |

Do you need to pay the dealer, or could you nominally do it yourself? Curious if the dealers have any special access that you couldn't get by paying BMW (https://bmwtechinfo.bmwgroup.com/#/login) for 24 hour access to their tools? Though I'd expect the adapter to connect the car would cost more if you only used it once.

For now, coding on late-model BMWs is dead in the water. However, if we had access to the tools, it would be a 30 second job! |
