At least that module you ordered is easy to pop in? Lol
That would make some sense since the sensors hardware in itself is pretty low-tech.

Hey Cabo, was wondering if you swapped it in and if it worked? I've had multiple occasions where having it retrofitted would haven't made my life so much better.

My ix50 is in status 150 now and expecting to start production next week. In the final build sheet sent by my SA, I don't see the tailgate delete with -$100 listed. Does it mean the tailgate is included or it is excluded from special package-9? Even though I see the "Comfort Access keyless entry" listed in special package-9.

Yes my understanding is that they are adding these back and no longer deleting them.

As an update, got a nail in one of my tires so I needed to go into the shop. Had the bmw dealer plug the tire and check the vehicle with ista. Shop foreman said there is no official retrofit coding in ista yet to perform the official retrofit, despite the test plan indicating there is one, as my vehicle is throwing a fault code since installing the correct tailgate evaluation electronics module and not yet being coded!

Ahh gotcha! So they did install the tailgate into your car? Which parts did you end up needing?

I installed it myself, however they are claiming the retrofit coding is still not available. I have a $450 paperweight installed in my car now.

The only part you need is: 61355A562D6, however you need BMW to provide the requisite coding in ISTA for the dealers to compelte a "vehicle modification" for official retrofit coding. My shop foreman says its not yet available.

Just wondering if your dealer was able to complete the coding.

NJ BMW dealers are allowed to plug tires? BMW dealers in all of CA will 100% not plug a tire! They say they are under strict orders from BMWNA not to!

Sounds like they're confused about whether the iX has run flat tires (which sometimes shouldn't be plugged based on manufacturer recommendations, but often are without negative effects) - and I'm dubious BMWNA told them not to, or at least they misinterpreted. No reason I know of that an aero tire can't be plugged, depending on the damage, although using the included foam canister for a repair probably wrecks the interior tire core.

Here in California, BMW dealers will not plug any tire, run flat or not. It has been this way for years and years and years

No they still won’t code the trunk sensor, says the software still isn’t showing this as an official “vehicle modification” in ista.

I guess I’ll find out tomorrow when I go back again for another nail in a different tire!!

Yes, I got mine done finally last week. The official BMW retrofit is available from ISTA v.4.41.1x and is called "Conversion of Elimination of Contactless Actuation of the Tailgate".

Your dealership can 100% perform the coding with the software available on their shop computers today. All you need to do is pay them to purchase and install the "Handsfree Tailgate Evaluation Module", or do it yourself in about 7 minutes total with a 8mm & 12mm socket set to remove the center rear bumper plastic shroud, and unplug the 3 connectors from the module, pop out the dummy module and install the real module and reconnect the connectors!

Part #: 61355A562D6
Lowest Price online: $299.52

What is difference between 61355A562D6 and 61355A562D6c?
It seems 61355A562D6 is discontinued.

Finally! Been waiting for this! Is there a manual you used or did you just have a general idea of how to get to the placement of the control unit?

Thanks for the info!

Never mind my post above. I see that the instructions have been posted here.

Slightly off topic - does the 24 model still not include the hands free tailgate option? I don't see this feature in the US website.

CaboM4: Did you have to pay the dealership to flash the relevant ISTA version?

Mine mentioned that it would cost ~$350 to do so. Sounds pretty steep to me, considering we only got ~$200 credit for the delete.

Do you need to pay the dealer, or could you nominally do it yourself? Curious if the dealers have any special access that you couldn't get by paying BMW (https://bmwtechinfo.bmwgroup.com/#/login) for 24 hour access to their tools? Though I'd expect the adapter to connect the car would cost more if you only used it once.

I'm fairly certain you have this feature included in all 2024 model year iXs. I just picked up a new X3 for a friend on a P1 order and it was included. Can't imagine you wouldn't get it in the iX at 2x the cost of the X3! It wasn't on the X3 window sticker mentioned either!

No, I had the attached "owe" from corporate. I received the cost of the module reimbursed finally and the retrofit programming at no cost.

Yes, this vehicle is a victim of Coding 2.0 whereby all the CAFDs live in the BMW Back-end cloud and NCD signing is done in a new and different manner, also signed by certificates on the Back-end cloud.

For now, coding on late-model BMWs is dead in the water. However, if we had access to the tools, it would be a 30 second job!
