Wow, that's impressive!

I'm in the 'I like the iX wheel' camp. I regularly jump from my Audi with a round (flat bottom) wheel and the iX wheel and honestly love both of them.

I think a lot of people with Tesla’s typically never cared about cars before. It really appealed to tech savvy people before it became this weird pop culture icon and I’d see people online raving about how it’s the best car they’ve ever owned and I’d ask what cars they’ve had experience with prior and I got answers like a Corolla or a Nissan Sentra so yeah that explains at least some of the cult like following.

Yep, I agree. For many Tesla owners it's threat first car they have owned that is half decent. So yeah, it seems amazing. And in fact the experience of a Tesla vs a Corolla or other base mainstream car will be absolutely night and day, and Tesla deserves the credit it gets for that.

Yeah that would be killer. Right now it just looks cool, like my friends old 80’s mustang with the turbo light that means nothing. I debated not putting it back on but then there’s a spot in the back that would look unfinished.

Yeah I bought it second hand. Condition is like new though. I would have gotten it from a dealership parts store if they were readily available.

Tangent warning! I agonized about it for a few days because I know there’s a whole market for stolen vehicles (chop shops) and parts and nobody wants that going on. In the end I just decided I was over thinking it.

I buy second hand stuff all the time (network switches, etc) and there’s often no reasonable way for me to verify if it came from an acceptable source. If some of the things I buy ARE ill-gotten, there’s a whole chain of social, business, engineering, and legal failures that led to it being sold from a mainstream outlet with good reputation. The fact that there is someone willing to buy that product or part is just one piece, and clearly there’s a market because otherwise that item wouldn’t exist in the first place.

At any rate, as you can tell I did a lot of navel gazing on the subject, that’s probably all I’ll say on that because there is a whole lot to unpack on the topic and I don’t want to derail

Not to change the subject, but you had me at network switches. 😂😂😂. Here’s a photo of one of my network racks at home - all UniFi Enterprise switches and APs.

Ah you’ve got the UDM SE. I’m stuck on the Pro with the firmware that they’ll never get around to updating.

Some of the second hand switches I’ve bought are the US8. Very handy as room switches since they are PoE powered, but nearly impossible to find in stock.

Version 3 is around the corner for the Pro. Mark my words! Sorry, didn’t mean to hijack your own thread!

I feel like I’ve been hearing that for a long time! Well it was “version 2.0 is coming”, but that ship sailed.

I guess that’s why I take the iX firmware updates in stride

They’re trying to get the entire lineup to the same version number at all times so the feature sets are consistent. Shouldn’t be too much longer! I still use my pfSense firewall as my DMZ since I have a lot more control over the inbound traffic and outbound policy based routing.

Ping me if you ever need any help with UniFi stuff. I’m sure no one else on here wants to hear this crap!

SPOT ON! A Tesla was, at least in the beginning, a statement piece about what EVs could do. The quality of the bits didn't matter in this context. It was about the tech. Unfortunately, the rest of the vehicle industry has leapfrogged Tesla in every way that matters to this car buyer.

Tesla has put all of its eggs in two baskets: FSD and Cybertruck. The former has already been shown to be a miserable failure during the Superbowl:

I wonder if anyone has (had) the chutzpah to tell The Elon that what was good enough when there was no one else around isn't good enough anymore now the big boys are on the playground.

Since the mid 1990s, my spouse and I have been driving BMWs, then Mercedes for about a decade and after that it was a non-stop rotation of Range Rover, Porsche, Audi, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Lexus.

In 2021 I ordered and waited about 4 months for my Tesla Model Y Performance. I kept it 35 days. From the delivery day sh*t show, to immediate issues, inability to contact Tesla, build quality, parts quality, ride quality, worst streaming radio ever......I have never had a worse car

I have had a few really B A D BMWs and Mercedes, but at least you have a near endless (at least in So. California) choice of dealerships/Service Centres and you can call either company. Tesla...you have the app, and you hope someone gets back to you :/

I’m not going to go all CSI with a transparent overlay, but it is really clear in this comparison photo just how little difference there actually is in the viewport through these wheels. Not just the size, but shape of the viewport is nearly identical. The original iX wheel may have slightly larger thumrest cutouts.

If you go back into my post history, I was one of the ones initially offering up and perpetuating the “it matches iDrive” explanations for the shape. That’s just not the case, there’s no difference.

The biggest difference is in the bottom part, the iX wheel looks squished. If it weren’t for power tilt this may help with entry for some people.

It turned out fantastic.

Don’t worry about the negative people.

Much better than that oddly shaped quasi bus steering-wheel.

The best part is that I do not believe a SA will even notice. Which completely validates the wheel swap.

If they do take notice, then he should just say that’s the way it came. Then take a photo of their reaction.
