Incorrect Time Zone

I’ve been doing my initial round of setup, and I hit a mystery I cannot figure out. When I select set time automatically, it always reverts to the wrong time zone. I can manually override by disabling automatic time setting, but I don’t want that.

Is there a trick to getting it to detect the correct time zone?

I am in Eastern Time, but it will always go back to Central Time when I enable automatic.

I can top that… when I check the auto time zone box, it defaults to Croatia and I’m in San Jose, California.

I'm in Arizona but the car GPS gives me the time zone for Boise, ID.

Well crap. Looks like this is a thing. I remember how great it was when we got our 2007 Honda Odyssey that would update its clock automatically and change when we drove over time zones. Aaaah, the good old days.

BMW typically updates the clock using NTP from cellular carriers. I'm guessing your AT&T or TMobile phones are okay?

Boise and most of Arizona are currently in the same time zone. My computer and iPhone say Cupertino but I know that just means Pacific Time. NomoTesla Does the car also show Boise for the other half of the year when AZ isn't on MST?

Yep, all our household mobile phones are correct time. I am 60 miles from the time zone line, so distant enough that it shouldn’t mess up.

My Genius just called me back about the time zone problem. He found a car at his dealership not working, but several others that worked find. It became his personal mission. He spoke with his RTM, and the RTM said that there is a back-end server issue that affected a batch of cars, and mine is one of those cars. He said there should be a fix in the next week or two.

So, crossing my fingers.

Resurrecting this, did anyone find a solution? Mine was working fine until this morning. Realized it didn’t update for the daylight savings change (which is why my departure settings didn’t work), so I figured “I’ll turn it off then back on”.

Big mistake, as it now thinks the car is in “Kabul, Tashkent, Maldives”. While I wish I were in the Maldives for a vacation, I’ll settle for fixing the time zone lol.

I tried doing a reset of iDrive which didn’t work, and have tried changing other things around with no luck. Any suggestions?

Mine still doesn't work. I tested it last week, and no change. I returned it to manual time setting and it was fine until the DLS changeover. So, I switched automatic time setting on, then back off, and then I manually corrected my time zone.

This reminds me that I need to give my genius another follow-up call and ask about that rumored fix that was supposed to happen weeks ago...

2024 i5 same issue. But our M3 and XM (iDrive 8)...automatic time setting & DST worked perfectly (as did all our past BMWs).

Think this is just affecting iDrive 8.5?

I picked my iX today (I live in Los Angeles) but apparently not really - I'm in Berlin! Let's hope it moves from Berlin time to PDT soon!

That is my guess. When I called my dealer Genius back, he retested it on an i5 there with iDrive 8.5 and got the same result - wrong time zone.

The time in my 2024 ix has been hosed since DST this past weekend. I attempted to fix it by toggling the auto date/time sync off and on and it just made it worse. I’m going to have to manually set the time now.
