What I find strange about EV’s made by legacy car companies is that most of their cars are flawless in certain areas, like the “time” and then they make an EV and can’t get it right. Same with seat memory etc.

Sometimes reinventing the wheel just doesn’t make sense.

For decades, The Legacies designed and built their cars as if nothing would be changed or updated after they rolled off the assembly line. Map updates for GPS were painful and manual, and any modules that could be re-flashed needed complex dealer equipment.

Modern cars turned all this on end. Legacies needed to recreate everything, but they lacked the talent, were organizationally misaligned, and were trapped in out-of-date design practices. So, some of them created steaming heaps of crap. Others just chronic skid marks. Honestly, BMW is doing far better than most. GM is an epic disaster. VW Group is rough. Hyundai Motor Group is really good.

I don't think the time zone defect is limited to their BEVs. I think it is an iDrive 8.5 thing. But that is probably an indirect outcome of the duress the BEV & modern car demands are putting on their software group.

I saw a post on another forum that said their 03/2024.25 updated fixed the time zone defect.

I have the same problem - time zone stuck in Berlin and I’m in Cali. Then I try to update the remote software and I get this?

Is Nov 23 really the latest upgrade?

March 2024 update is the latest one. BMW releases major iDrive updates in March, July, and November every year. Updates gets pushed to vehicles in waves in some unknown order, so not all cars get the latest version all at the same time. This is not like updating Windows or your phone where once an update is made available on a central server/cloud, everyone can get it. Also, dealers get the latest version pretty much on the same month it is released but it gets rolled out OTA a month or so later.

I got my car back after being in the shop for a week (thank god I think all the buzzing and shaking noises are gone) and I just toggled on and off the automatic timezone and it fixed itself. I don't have the new update yet. Just strange cars like this are having the simplest things go wrong. Maybe we should go back to pressing the "Set", "H", and "M" buttons

BMW doesn't have a clue

My 540i that I've only had for a month also showed it to be in Berlin when I activated the automatic time setting. I took it to my dealer who kept it for a week working with BMW to fix the issue. BMW finally informed the dealer that it does not have a fix for this issue and does not know when one will be available. My dealer recommended that I call BMW Customer Care and discuss this issue with them. After reading this discussion it would seem they should since it looks like the first post I read was back in January.
I'm going to start calling the Customer Care and would recommend that all who are having this issue do likewise. Just maybe the more calls they receive the sooner they might do something about it. The phone number is 1.800.831.1117.

I'm in Pacific time, so I set it up as Boise to be able to match the PDT TZ, since the automatic timezone didn't work.

Today, it went ahead by an hour, so I'm now back on california TZ. Automatic timezone detection doesn't work yet. Still a progress. Hope the next release fixes the issue completely.

There must be a work around to pull the update manually....

I have the same problem in Berlin.

I have the 11/2023.42 update and the display says I’m on the latest software. Can’t believe this simple a software issue is still out there.
