At the end of the day, it's BMW who decides what they consider "M" and what deserves a badge - not a random forum member. A base 3 series these days is as fast as E46 M3s. Family sedans are faster than supercars from 20 years ago. If BMW thinks these cars deserve M badges and want to put them on specific cars, it's their choice.

A lot of forum members seem to be very insecure about badges

There are two types of people:

1. Those who don't know the difference between a 330i and an M3 and they won't be "tricked" by the badge.
2. Those who know the difference and are not tricked by a badge - so the person with fake badges is not fooling anyone.

Badges don’t mean anything anymore. Put badges all over your car, who gives a sh*t. The brands already do it for you anyways. One word…diluted.

This thread is about owners putting M badges on vehicles that didn't have them from the factory. I agree with your types.. exactly right, those trying to impress non car people fail because the general public doesn't care. And those of us that do care can spot the fake a mile away. So what purpose does this serve? It's an interesting and rather sad attempt to deceive others imho.

Agreed. Diluted and styled to attract by visuals instead of driving dynamics. I spent my G8x money on an e30 instead. This thing is slow as hell but a riot to drive!

People really have no shame. I just don't get it. I'm self conscious about the m badging on my m340i and that came from the factory. I can't imagine the shame of driving around in one with fake badging.

Hey, the factory put the m badge on my Z4 M40i. It denotes M-performance, but I could care less what others think. I like it.
