To each their own and all... but does anyone feel the urge to steal the badges?

The non BMW brown car that is all marked up as an M is down right hillarious and clever. I try not to take myself to serious. That car is funny.

That VW is not a nod to the BMW M car. It's a nod to Porsche Martini Racing. VW owns Porsche.

Nice try...Not convinced. VW only recently owned Porsche... Certainly well after the Martini racing livery days

They have been sister companies since shortly after Porsche's inception. Ferdinand Porsche left Mercedes Benz to form his own company in 1931, designed the first Beetle in 1935, and all of the early 356 Porsches had engines that were based on the flat 4 units in the VW and suspensions taken from the Beetle. The 914 was marketed as a VW-Porsche in Europe (as was the 924), and both it and the 912 (and 912E) used VW engines.

There is a lot more relationship between the 2 companies than many Porsche snobs are willing to admit.

Martini isn't exclusively teamed with Porsche. Martini & Rossi has sponsored Lancia, Ford, and Alfa Romeo teams in addition to Porsche. It has sponsored powerboat racing and Formula 1 (including Brabham and Lotus), and won more titles with Lancia than with Porsche. Don't be such a snob.

Since we're all about giving factual information the VW Beetle was designed by Josef Ganz a Jewish engineer but was never given credit because of his religion.

Ganz worked for Mercedes Benz at the same time as Porsche, and his "Standard Superior" design from 1931 bears some resemblance to the later Beetle (albeit the front looked more like the Citroen 2CV), but Ganz's design proposed a radial watercooled 5 cylinder engine as opposed to the flat 4 designed by Porsche. The swing axle rear suspension on the Beetle was clearly a Ganz design, as he had provided it earlier for Mercedes Benz. Ganz was arrested by the Gestapo on trumped up charges shortly before Porsche's Beetle design was commissioned by Hitler, and we can only speculate as to what impact Hitler's virulent anti-Semitism and a desire to take any credit away from Ganz had with respect to this.
