i8 US orders - have any of your cars moved from status 155? Mine is in 155 and shows waiting for transport, just wondered what you all are hearing from your dealers about your orders. The BMW NA system says awaiting transport, too. Online, on MY BMW, it only says, though, that production still occurring. I know the systems are definitely not in synch, and often days off from being updated. Just wondered what you all are hearing and what the true status may indeed be.

I think all of ours are waiting on ships. The first batch of "real" customer cars are likely shipping out the beginning of next week all together. I think everyone on here that has one coming in the first batch will be riding over together or at least on the sea at the same time.

Mine is still at status 155 and has been for a couple weeks, so it appears it doesn't move off that status until it has been received by the carrier for transport on a ship. MYBMW web site has it at Production Ends with the next step being En Route to the U.S.

ah, cool. mine is in same status but yours finished about a week before mine. I am hoping yours and mine can at the very latest make one of the ships next week (there is one on tuesday aug 26), putting it in US on sat sep 13 (Brunswick, GA).

For west coast deliveries (Port Hueneme, CA), there is a ship departing Bremerhaven this Saturday (8/23), so I'm hoping mine is on that one. Once loaded on a ship, BMW no longer tracks it until it is at the dealership, but you can confirm the ship it's on (if it is a W&W ship) but inputting the VIN in the Track and Trace cargo number at the following site: http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/index.jsp

BTW, I'm getting all of this info on the shipping from the following blog entry: http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/14/ho...d-to-delivery/

Lucky guys !
Mine stubbornly remains on MYBMW as production started, hotline says completion August 29. Dealer says status still 150 and has been like that for nearly 3 weeks.
Hoping for better news but maybe that Pure Impulse package is holding things up again ?

I am pretty sure that the status updates within BMW are not timely, and they're not consistent between data the dealers have, My BMW online, and the BMW NA hotline voice updates.

In any event, it will be interesting to see when this first batch of 'non celebrity' cars really hits the US. Getting very excited!

At one point for me:

- the hotline said "Production complete, awaiting release to carrier"

- the customer service rep after the hotline recorded message said the car was still in production (but she said it appeared it hadn't been updated in their system for over a week)

-dealer's system said production complete, awaiting Quality check.

Now the automated hotline still saying awaiting carrier, my dealer says QC is complete and it's waiting on the carrier...and the customer service rep still says it's in production, (completion on Aug 27th) but their system hasn't been updated since I called two weeks ago.

Think they need to work on getting a more consistent message with the tracking.

runaround from different BMW sources on order status

same here - I have been told the exact same things (conflicting production and release status reports) by my dealer, the automated 1-800 system, My BMW online, and the people at BMW NA Customer Service. I thought German companies were supposed to be so very structured and organized!

I guess I should not be surprised - I was absolutely floored that this car came into being with such global fanfare - and yet the company was not prepared from a leather procurement standpoint, either. (the Pure Impulse debacle)

In any event, I guess we are a captive audience - we want the car and there is not an alternative. This is a true exercise in patience (super difficult for me, I might add!). If any of you guys have figured out a way **not** to think about all this as much as I do, please let me know. Serious.

I have a suggestion:

1. Stop by South Africa, pick up a Marauder.
2. Roll with Marauder to Leipzig, break into plant by brute force.
3. Just take all of the Display Keys.
4. Roll on to Monza in the M4.

Not sure what to do with the Marauder at this point, but they are pretty indestructible, so you could just leave it there.

While you're at it, you might want to stop in Bremerhaven to see if our i8's are sitting there waiting for loading onto a ship.

I could do an "Italian Job " aka Michael Caine and do a heist on keys.
Maybe JasH with his Lotus can help with the escape ?

I spoke with several BMW execs at Pebble Beach. Their goal is to make sure that all of the major i8 dealers receive their first car at approx the same time. They have done this before with other major introductions.

I'm guessing the first and second weeks of Sept.

I doubt any updates will be coming before Sat/Sun when the East and West coast-bound ships in Bremerhaven are loading up. We'll know pretty quickly thereafter whether they made it on since the shipping companies are good about up-to-date shipping info.
