The ACC sensor isnt anywhere near as visible as it seems like it is from these pics assuming the grille matches the M3/M4. That lower part just above the bottom lip is curving inwards back towards the body of the car which you cant really tell from pics. that was the big thing for me at first when i only had the leaked images of the G8X to go on...it wasnt really the size of the grille... the issue was that it just looked so flat and like it was pasted on the front of this curvy car and it had this vibe like it got its nose cut off (like the base 4 series). But theres really a nice subtle curve to it which makes it work. The redesigned hood has those raised bits which follow a downward curve all the way through the grille and into the bottom lip. The design really makes a lot of sense but i could totally see it being controversial

In all seriousness it's too bad the front plate must be in the middle and not off to the side. I could envision a slimmer (LF-RT) oval grill without the sharp edged turns along the top and bottom sections. Something more similar to the 1930's 328 Milla Miglia. If you look at the 328 the plate is either off to the side or underneath the grill.

BMW's radar sensor excuse is BS. They could easily house the radar sensor in the lower intake like they do on every other vehicle they have on sale and make the grills shorter in height and more proportionate. Even if they needed to add larger sensors, they would still not come close to the size of these grills. Even here on the i4, the radar is part of the lower intake, it just so happens the grills are stretched vertically into the intake as well. I don't see why they couldn't put it in the upper gloss black section of the grill to hide it.

The cut out around the sensor is what makes it noticeable. In addition to the bottom looking as though it is actually open grills (maybe cooling the brakes???) with a shiny small plastic piece on one grill. Those cerium bits only intensify it as well. I can see what they were attempting but the cohesiveness is not there at all.

Both the 4er concept and the i4 concept (i.e. were the designers could actually do whatever they wanted) did not have the hood line, I'm not sure the designers explicitly talked about it but I guess we can assume it had to be changed for safety/regulatory reasons, and not because the designers thought the final car looks better that way.

Not looked at all pages but have any of our American posters bemoaned the death of steering feel,
6MT and all the other things that seem to only hold their interest? |

What's to hype? The reveal perfectly suits the car, they were embarrassed to show it

I think the problem with this cars design (that the regular 4er coupe shares) is that the front end is so sharp in its creases and shapes, but the side is very soft and bloated due to the faint design creases and body-lines. It just doesn't match in my opinion. Its very aggressive in the front but past the a-pillar loses any aggression and looks very boring, very VW Arteon-like.

Bewilders me that if they want to capture market share in the EV space, they decided to go with their most controversial front end design. A timeless design this is not, which was the hallmark of their most revered cars.
Best of luck to BMW, but this won't be the car I purchase to make the switch.

BMW doesn't have that, and on general principles, I think taking the G26 4GC to be their first sedan-like BEV made/makes a lot of sense. Now whether you like the 4er or not is another matter, I agree... |

The E-Tron GT is gorgeous, plus its finally a proper RWD car without the engine hanging out over the front axle like other Audi's.
