When I go on Reverse, only the passenger side mirror tilts down. Is it possible to make the driver side mirror also tilt down?

No. BMWs only have the passenger mirror tilt down. Some brands, e. g. Lexus, have both mirrors tilt down.

That's a bummer. I'm used to both mirrors tilting down in my previous Hyundai.

What's the reason BMW doesn't do this? Is it because they expect the driver to roll down the window and check the curb on his/her side?

You know I’ve come to rely on the overhead camera view when backing up for Keri’s, etc and the main rear view for everything behind the car. Excellent definition.

Because you normally are close enough on the driver side that you can properly estimate the distance, as opposed to the passenger side.

Having the driver side mirror tilt down would (does) bother me. It's unnecessary and limits visibility. The 360 degree view largely replaces all the other methods anyway. The way I look at it is...

~1990's you swivel your head using available mirrors and hope you don't hit a curb
~2000's passenger side mirror dips to avoid curb rash and you swivel your head and hope for the best. If you're parallel parking on a one way street then you can roll down the window and get a good view of the curb on the driver side (if needed).
~2010's use 360 degree view.

It’s because the feature is for watching the curb, and in most situations that’s on the right hand side. The other mirror on the left stays up for watching traffic coming around you.

Yes there’s the odd case where you may be parking left on a one way street.

My Polestar allowed both sides to tilt down in reverse. I rely on it all time because you know: one way streets with parking on both sides.

On my E82 and F31 I could code reverse tilting both side mirrors with my Carly OBD adapter. I’ve read I am unable to code it the way I want it on the iX. It’s kind of dumb BMW doesn’t even allow this to be an option.

I have like 4 ways to adjust some things (steering wheel, idrive, gesture, voice) and 0 ways to customize something simple like reverse tilt on the drivers side.

Yes, I can use a camera, but sometimes it’s nice to have a mirror tilt down for direct visual. If the real solution was cameras, then BMW would’ve disabled the passenger side tilt down. So I don’t accept the ‘use the cameras’ solution.

Just let owners customize the setting. It requires basically no effort on BMWs part.

My guess is safety. On the overhead view you see your car and what's immediately around it. On the rear camera view you see what's directly behind the camera, with some perspective distortion. With the rear view mirror you see what's behind you in the narrow space of your hatch window. With the passenger side camera (if you tilt it) you see the curb - most likely as noted on your right. If you also tilt the driver's side mirror, you also see the curb. Just the curb, and not what's behind you on the left side of your car as you're backing up, for some distance, actual view. That view is only available with an upright driver's side mirror. BMW's driving system is a nanny in many other ways, but this one is probably not a bad idea for many drivers.

Probably should have said "added safety." It's not a legal requirement AFAIK, and car manufacturers have different philosophies in protecting their drivers and passengers and preventing accidents, as well as how their cars actually drive and perform. I'm sure BMW and Polestar - and MB and VAG and Hyundai et al - differ in more significant ways in what's under and over the paint, for their own reasons. Having a better view of traffic is arguably more safe than having a better view of your side skirts and tires, but that's again dependent on what supplements your view and how you use it.
